im sure lots of people find it quite annoying that AMD has built an incredible platform thats lasted longer than many have expected it too, but at the same time there is no rule that the motherboard brands have to support them for the full extent. seriously whats the point of making thuban work for am2+, if only 10% of us can use it. what ever the plans are for am3+, i hope amd forces board partners to support it fully for its entire life, otherwise they loose a major selling point of the amd platform as a whole.

I noticed that ASUS listed an AM3 Bios for the M2NSLI Deluxe. That board is barely AM2+ capable yet it might have Phenom X6 support.

im really surprised no one has posted this yet:

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/3678/p...rted-at-launch

it notes that most companies are doing AM3 then AM2. So maybe wait it out if your board isnt supported? Glad my MSI 785-E51 is on the list. =)

i just noticed some of you are running MSI K9A2 Plat. WTH? They enable support on Neo2 and no Plat. support yet? Thats a burn in my book.

Thats like Nvidia supporting GTX260 before GTX470 in Windows 8.

kinda funny he used the links we found, i wouldnt blame him if he took the info right from this thread. notice he skipped DFI, cause they dont have a support thread yet

AMD is not responsible for updating your motherboard's BIOS and/or testing it with Thuban. The opcode for Thuban support is obviously available and working with AM2+ as we see in this thread. It's just a matter of the motherboard manufacturer taking the time to update and test the new BIOS with Thuban chips. Why should AMD require a manufacturer to update an older motherboard? If the manufacturer doesn't want to, or can't, then it's their potential loss of business in the future. AMD made it quite clear with the advent of AM2+ at the end of 2007 that split power planes were the future. It wasn't necessary for Phenom I Agena but it's been strongly recommended since Phenom II Deneb C2. Some single-plane motherboards never saw official support for Deneb because even though they worked, they did so at a higher TDP and thus the manufacturer couldn't guarantee operation within the specs of the socket power delivery. It looks like AMD finally removed compatibility with single-plane motherboards for Thuban and I don't see how that move could be considered too soon. Some AM2+ boards will never be able to support Thuban but those same boards were never supposed to support the C2 965 either, due to the TDP being well over 140w in single-plane operation.

i never said AMD is responsible, but they have a risk too, they stick their necks out by trying to provide us with a long lasting platform, and have the potential to loose business because of a motherboard partner who does not fully attempt to support their boards over the full life of them. if i had to buy just a cpu, its going to be the same one that fits my motherboard. but if i cant, then i have to consider the entire upgrade cost, and that has a potential for me to switch sides. AMD sure wouldnt be happy if i said i was going to go intel because one of their partners got lazy

of course there are exceptions for when something cannot be supported, but simply ending a support for something still being sold as new, thats a little messed up.

    TA780GE

I'm keeping up hope these get added soon.
Although I own both TA790GXE and TA790GXE 128M, I don't see any hope these will get any X6 love. They didn't even bother adding BIO-Unlocking (gimmicky as it is) that the 785 boards got.
Until they do this favor, Biostar will not beat Gigabyte as my favorite boardmaker.

    Edit:
I take back what I said:
A local distributor site (biostar-sme.com) seems to have X6 BIOS for these and several other TA boards. Check the "Download BIOS" link.
Have fun, DedEmbryonicCe1, and keep us informed.

Today was a real nightmare so I missed my friend's radio show and haven't had a chance to overclock yet. The TA790GXE 128M does indeed work with Thuban using the newest (78DFA421.BST) BIOS. Despite the water in my reservoir appearing clear over the past few months I had black lagoon monsters growing in my waterblock. That took another trip back to the store for more hex screwdrivers and too many valuable benching hours to clean.

Sorry to hear about your day, but W00T! Happy to know that the BIOS works.
Saves me from having to get a new board just for Thuban. Have to get a display first.
Thanks a bunch. Keep us updated on how it OC's, won't you?

whats the cheapest non asus or msi and preferably non gigabyte with a pwm heatsink that u can get that supports the hex. i need a replacement while i rma the gd70 790 and then im going to use it on an htpc (preferably matx but could be whatever), a real bios block would also be a plus

ZZF is no longer a reputable site, thx for the suggestion though. i think that i will go for a used or for a dfi and risk it if i cant get a used board.

i will check the local stores for that msi black but its almost an asrock 890 in price

I'd rather it not run at all than knowing I spent $200+ for an AM3 Duron.

if you have patience, id wait to see what gets updated, and wait for more 800 series boards to come out for budgets. its too new for them to make the cheaper stuff. i have a 1055T siting on my desk over a week now, and i cant do crap till MSI gives one of their greatest boards a new bios.
