one question for all .... lucid hydra... will it be able to support both card like they are advertising???? if nvidia is really making time-bombs etc... then why would lucid still works.. or did lucid and msi paid nvidia to make it work ????

Hmm... I believe you meant "non-essential". 99.9% of the general public use either a single integrated GPU or single Graphics Card. The remaining 0.1% have either cards in SLI or X-Fire and reside here on XS and a few other forums dedicated to spending our savings accounts into oblivion. I'd guess that less than 10% of the multi-card users have a dedicated physX card and probably only 10% of them actually want to use an ATi main graphics card with an nVidia physX card.
Really? Quite a few ATi users on this forum have commented on how they want to use PhysX on their ATi cards, as recently as the post just prior to yours. And while the majority simply want to be able to use an nVidia card as a dedicated PhysX card, plenty of members here continue to say that nV should allow everyone to use their API.PhysX is restricted & only runs on NV hardware anyway so you have no point at all.
And part of the usage payment would be for driver development and support since ATi users will blame nVidia's "crappy drivers" the moment their nV physX card has problems functioning with their ATi graphics card.
.. I wouldn't be surprised my latter point was the main reason why nVidia dropped their support for nV physX cards with ATi graphics cards.

The only spin-meisters here are you and some of the other Nv crackheads.![]()
Yes, we'll want to run PhysX on a single card...if you still have a Tandy 13" dia. screen/640 res/16 colors and load in King's Quest on floppy.Oughta get some playable FPS then, yep.
Or...maybe not.![]()

I've used Nv and ATI and liked them both. But this Nv + PhysX is just another steaming pile from their marketing division, as others have pointed out.
Get over it.

im seeing a very common occurrence, companies who have more market share try to be more closed, those with less try to be open
intel is trying to keep everyone away from building x86 chips
nvidia is only letting their cards do physx
apple is only letting their tools built apps for their phones
the bigger a company gets, the more it trys to make it so no one else can grow. nvidia has put in a very large effort to try and control physx, yet somehow only a very, very small portion of physx games actually use the gpu. there is nothing technically impossible, just their image cannot handle the idea
We all know that PhysX is just a marketing gimmick by Nvidia, seriously how many games, I mean great and popular games out there that support PhysX? You can go on Wiki and make a list but I can't think of anything besides Batman, Metro 2033, and Mirror Edge. And do you actually care about PhysX? I don't, it doesn't hurt gameplay or I feel like missing anything but an extra minor effect, whatever give me better performance for an appropriate price then I'll go for it. It would be nice to have PhysX support but that's definitely not my concern when judging performance of one card over another. I just think that Nvidia is successful in term of marketing the whole PhysX thing and make it become a big deal, anyone remember Nvidia once said "A card with PhysX will provide better performance than a HD5xxx card" when HD5xxx series released? That's just utterly rubbish and that's why some of us don't like Nvidia, along with many dirty moves.

I would like to see quotes that users here said that they want physX on ATI cards.
And for the blaming what's new when it comes to pointing fingers as to why someone's setup is playing up, that's part of the platform & all involved get blamed daily for things that are not of there doing & if NV cant take it then they should get off the open PC platform & make there own closed one like Apple.
I've done this a few times. NV marketing not a news post!

First, please don't get so pissy, my spell checker ate your name. sorry.
Secondly, nvidia's answer was "NO", when we all know it's unequivocally YES.
Thirdly,
True^!As I see it, it's very simple really. PhysX is a technology owned by Nvidia. If you want to use it, buy Nvidia hardware!
But wasn't it you, that derailed this thread with a theoretical "what if.... ATi makes it so their drivers don't work with nvidia", etc..
That is essentially your answer to nvidia marketing and lies. Which I find as rather pathetic rebuttal from a technical level... to a marketing one.

THE AGEIA PPU LIGHTS UP BLUE WHEN HARDWARE ACCELERATION IS IN USE.
TESTED BY ME
The big problem with PhysX is commercial.
Nv bought a company selling a PPU and offer for free the software. A software can be hacked and found on pirates networks. A hardware can't.
Nv was already selling hardware, and was interested to sell a second hardware or a third to do PhysX. Good move i agree, PhysX must be accelerated.
But the is a problem in the end. Nvidia sell a product that if you don't use you can play without and it's not degraded. The games that PhysX support are limited, and not really so much played. Most of the time, it's used with Unreal engine 3.0, and it's a half success motors i think. There is a good multithread rendering system, but most of the games lack of interest, and are limited in time. There is not a lot of multiplayers mods, ( and not a single mmo) , not huge community for mods; That's that made motors like HL to legends motor. Why Havok become strong ? Because HL2 used it. The difference with PhysX and Havok is that Havok is gameplay, and PhysX is 'only' a graphic one. That's a huge difference in gameplay, and pleasure to play.
PhysX when they got bought by nvidia was multithreaded and very good. nividia nerfed the multithread the numbers of cpus cores was growing fast.
Other mistake, they killed PPU 1&2.
Next they nerfed other GPU rendering, and it's not a software technically impossible to do, but it's a choice. No doubt about that.
They lost leadership in GPU performance / price, and interresest. HD5xxx is far away in GPUs dx11.
AMD/ATI, is doing a lot of work with devs this times, and it's working great.
Finnally devs don't like non supported software on 30-40% of GPUs. Most of them waited for an unifed solution, before coding codes that is not supported by all the systems. Even if OpenCL and Dxcompute are late, and even they are not the best tools, they are futur proof, that's is not the case for PhysX. This is gonna kill PhysX. Bullet and havok ( provided by intel ) are going to eat PhysX litle by litle.
It's sad to see new techs dieing, but a tech boss need to take good choices, bad choices could terminate their techs.

Wolverine Origins
The Last Remnant
Gears of War
Huxley
Legendary
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Gothic 3
Should not be on the list & maybe a few more.
But it would be interesting if something was going on with the PPU with these games that is not happening with GPU accelerated PhysX.
Sorry but your wrong I should make a video for you guys they are telling lies to you. These games use hardware acceleration on the AGEIA PPU thats a fact.
I played Gears of War the other day and I get 5 fps boost w/ ppu,not one single stutter and the blue light on the ppu can be seen a mile away.
These games dont use NVIDIA PHYSX HARDWARE ACCELERATION !!!!!!(Except for mass effect 2)
What NVIDIA is doing is just plain stupid, but its their decision, and the IT industry is littered with companies that self-destructed because of short-sighted attempts at controlling the marketplace.
Free? If I buy an nVidia video card for PhysX it isn't free.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.
Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.
Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.
Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.
Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.
Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!
Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.
Just checked Legendary it uses the AGEIA PPU and also my AMBX KIT.
