What stepping is/was your 980X? Did you read FUGGER's post: Intel X980 OC Report ?
It outlines strengths & weaknesses in the steppings to date. He says that B1s are good, A0s die.

Its a B1, I haven't tested another cpu yet. With the chip in nothing is displayed on the diagnostic display. When I remove the chip I atleast get a readout. Hope its not the memory either $450 dom gt.
