    It's crunch time!

May 1st is almost here. Time to throw every machine you have into WCG. As many of you know, the whole purpose of this one-week event is to show the computational power of XS. But the people who benefit the most are the researchers.

In the past two weeks, hundreds of you have become members of the team. Thanks to your efforts, our daily point production has increased by more than 70%. We are closing in on the #2 team, Easynews.

There is a reason why this forum is called XtremeSystems. Even though we are pitted against corporate and university teams with huge resources at their disposal, we beat them on a daily basis, and often beat them badly. I recall the story of an Intel executive who was told where our team ranks in WCG. The executive's jaw dropped. She couldn't understand how a team composed of a relatively small group of enthusiasts could be ranked so high. I think we've always looked upon ourselves as David taking on Goliath.

Once again, thank you for your help. And my hope is that many of you will keep crunching well beyond the first week of May. I'm obviously biased, but I feel we have the best team in the world.

Hey Sierra, Perfectly said! I have loved being a part of this team since I started in R@H. And since we've been chasing Easynews for 4 years now this is a long time coming. Cheers you guys! this is it!

Hey guys, Anyone looking to add a little umph to their farm, Microcenter is having a deal right now on several AMD procs that come with a FREE 760G MOBO! I may be picking up one or three

    $99 Athlon II 630 w/ FREE mobo
    $65 Athlon II 250 w/ FREE mobo
    $99 Phenom II 555 w/FREE mobo

This deal is really hard to beat. Also, the board has SB 710 but I don't see anything about ability to unlock cores, so i think the 630 is the best bet. Anyway, PUSH PUSH PUSH guys!

IMHO Waste is a computer going to a landfill having done actual computations less than 90% of it's life. 90% of the computers powered on right now are idle or powered off; what a waste! [/B]

Is it a coincidence that your wifes pc is called Uranus?

Dude I ran two q6600 chips, one at stock one at 3.2, for a long time. They are worth it! I'd still be running them, except I needed to sell for money for some big expenses coming up. So now I'm running some A64s and a Pentium-D lol

If you can't afford the electricity, feel free to send the system (or at least the processor) to me! I've got plenty of electricity to spare for a bit of quadcaine.

I'm back! But I bet no-one remembers me. Was around in the days of R@H and early WCG (many thanks to MM for Xeon deals and advice!) before I left to join the (Brit) military. Catching Easynews seemed like a distant dream when I departed.

Anyway out the other side of basic training now and next thing I know theres an email from Dave haranguing me back to WCG, and something about XS making a supercomputer so um REPORTING FOR DUTY!

Got an i7 @ 4.2GHz on WCG, disappointed to see no GPU support for WCG yet so got my 3 5850s on Milkyway@Home.

hey man, everyone here was new at some point! Best advice I can give is don't get daunted by the big producers on the team. No contribution is too small. Also this is a numbers game, and the best asset you can have is time. If someone is serious about crunching and has gotten bitten by the bug, don't emphasize too much on points per day, but look more at points per week/month/year. you'll realize quickly that a little Pentium 4, which may seem insignificant, makes a big difference.

Oh and Welcome to the team!

Just got an I-7 950, Q9650 running atm and they are crunching nicely.
But I will have another quad of some sort running in the morning as I've just found another psu
If power isn't gonna be too high then I may keep them running for a while longer after the 8th, I used to do F@H for 4+ years until I had to pay for the power and my old forum died (pclincs).

@ Atomicpineapple, dude I wondered what happend to you. You used to do a bit on BTUK too, glad you're still alive man
