Hi, can anyone confirm how the backplate of the Chipset cooler on the Maximus Formula / Rampage Formula is attached?
I was hoping to be able to remove the chipset cooling block on my Rampage Formula flashed regular Maximus Formula (non-se) without having to remove my entire watercooling loop and mainboard from the chassi.
Because I am having big troubles getting the MCH stable at even 450MHZ @ 1.71v which according to my old notes it was stable at a year ago when I last tried to achieve 450MHZ

You can't replace the coolers without removing the board from your case. I'm not really sure anymore but I think that the mosfet coolers and the SB cooler is attached with push pins and the NB with screws.

    Are you sure?
If you look at the pictures in this review; http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...-review-5.html

Does it not look like the chipset cooler is it's own piece that detaches from the rest of the cooler?
I.e. if I remove the four screws holding it there I think / hope it will detach itself...
But question is will the backplate then just fall away from the back of the board?

There's a risk that the backplate is going to fall and damage the back of your board so you'll be better off taking everything apart to remove the cooler.

Did anyone already test the new Official BIOS 1001?

It's the first time that nobody is enthusiatic about a new BIOS release.

Only thing offical 1001 did for me is, made me rename 0001 in to 1002. Beucase that 0001 version started to bug me Im sure if 0001 will be officaly released will be called like 110x or something anyway because it have new feature. But wanted to rename 0001 version to put it in to some order regarding version/date.

Alien Grey; Thanks for the advise, I will keep it in mind if I remove the NB cooler on my MF, btw, no full cover block was ever made for the Maximus Formula right? (Is there perhaps an add-on waterblock I can put on my board to "upgrade" my MF to the -SE version?)

Also on the NB clocks do most people find it hard to go much over 400Mhz on the X38 based Maximus Formula?

Have installed the 1001 bios official, no problem so far, old settings works ok.
I am assuming that a new bios with different timings settings will be too risky in such an old mobo to prevent any RMAs.

It's exactly as BIOS 0902/1001 when you leave the refresh delay on Auto. All you should have to do is put all your settings back.

Not really because if you don't change them from Auto nothing would be different.

You wanted to know if BIOS 0001 is stable when using a refresh period of 16120T?

I can run 25 passes LinX stable in Ubuntu with Wine.

Anyone interested to run Creative software instead of crappy soundmax (Full EAX up to 4.0 and not "emulated" one, Creative Alchemy for OpenAL etc etc)? I moded drivers and software for Rampage II Extreme to work on our cards....

Wrong question. It should be "Any hope to see a BIOS with the Special 133 Mode?".

I don't think that there's a full cover block for the Maximus/Rampage but there's a watercooling block to cool the NB and SB at the same time.

What are the benefits of using the mod drivers? Does that mean that the sound card is going to be recognized as a Creative sound card?

In some way yes. You get some aditional functions... well thing is I had X-Fi for 2 years and 2 days ago it broke down, so when i installed soundmax soundcard first thing i noticed was CRAPPY and crashing drivers on Windows7 x64. And obviously soundmax support sucks ass, so i started to look in to how to make Rampage II Extreme audio drivers and software work on Rampage Formula... It was actualy easyer then i tought it will be.

here is everything that is needed.

Its only for Vista/Win7, because XP have stuff done a bit differently and i would probably need to test it.

Anyway first remove old soundmax drivers and Host OpenAL (ADI). Then install "by the numbers" and reboot at the end. One thing about those virus warning. That suppose to be infected BUT it only infects Delphi libraries, so if you are not delphi developer it wont do anything (and i did use this program a couple of times without any issues since it dont have delphi). Sadly this licenses needs to be generated per computer, so you cant make then in VM or copy from other computer, but good thing is after they are created you can back up *.kga files from ProgramData/Creative/SoftwareLock and just copy next time you reformat. If someone finds some issues with drivers let me know. I know one issue is, Mic Boost is gone and didnt found a way how to fix it yet.

edit: v2 version of drivers fixes micboost issue.

This is going to help a lot of guys having trouble to get the Supreme FX II sound card up and running in Win7.

Well shooting your self in the knee is probably less painful then using offical soundmax drivers on Win7. With this soundcard actaly becomes usable, you get pretty much same functions then on X-Fi USB, while offical soundmax drivers crashes shell32.dll everytime you open audio properties. Only "minor" issue is that license generator is virus that infects delphi and some people wont really want to gamble, but again unless you have delphi that virus does not do anything and its compleatly safe (even if you have delphi wrost thing it does is, it spreads because its "proof of conecpt" virus, it does not compromise your computer in any way).

thanks SoLoR, and is it me or do these drivers add eax support?? i'm assuming it'd be processed by the CPU but its still nice to have it

Well "offical" drivers have EAX up to 2.0 and "emulated" one up to 4.0, however that eax drivers are old (host openal (adi) that takes care for openal/eax is from mid 2008) and i wouldnt be suprised if they dont work with most of games this days. With this you get pure EAX support up to 4.0 and alchemy working and i dont think its CPU processed i think "emulated" EAX is CPU processed, this one i think its real deal...
