It may be able to lower your temps a few more degrees....

BTW: Something seems to be seriously wrong with your Heaven bench...
Thanks Dave! It looks like a nice block, unfortunately it's far more expensive here, almost double price. Maybe I'll be able to find a used one though.. but first I need to replace the tubing and connectors with some decent quality stuff.

Thanks guy's, and yes it was an exciting moment Below is what i did.

    ==Begin

First, I would like to thank the owner of this site, which I got my connection settings from. http://rayer.ic.cz/elektro/spipgm.htm
I also need to thank the users on the thread here in this forum for there post, Jack T.N. and Mamluk here http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=133578.0
    I used the following ,
I made my flash drive boot ready using HP's USB format tool. I used boot files from a startup up disk I made from winxp when formating the floppy to boot. The I browsed to this floppy disk as the source for my boot file when formatting my flash drive. I downloaded SPIPGM.zip from http://www.volny.cz/rayer/programm/programe.htm and extracted the files to the flash drive. I also downloaded and extracted CWSDPMI6.ZIP from the same site ( you will need to scroll to find the download links, the CWSDPMI6.ZIP was at the top and the SPIPGM.zip was near the bottom). I have all files on the root of the flash drive, none are in folders. I copied my bios file I wanted to flash with, also to the root of the flsah drive. I plugged in a power supply to my crippled board but did not power it on (this supply's standby power to the board, There is no need to power the system on, just use a volt meter to verify 3.3v on pin 1 on the JSPI1 or pin 8 on the FlashROM). I then hooked my home-made JSPI1 cable to the JSPI1 connector on the bad board. See image below,

    The connections were
    LPT Pin --to--> JSPI1 Pin
    10 (150 ohm RES) 3
    9 (150 ohm RES) 4
    8 (150 ohm RES) 6
    7 (150 ohm RES) 5
I then powered on my good PC that had the LPT port and did a boot from my flash drive. I typed the following at the command prompt

    CWSDPMI

    SPIPGM /u

    SPIPGM /e

SPIPGM /p A7642AMS.120 (your bios file here)

The program did not know the FlashROM and I was prompter to enter the size, i enter the 2048. I then disconnected the cable and powered on the bad board. It came right up.

Good job. I’ve been looking for a dancing partner for quite a while now.

I know you have already had trouble with a bad bios flash but I recommend you go straight to bios version 1.2. I've been getting better memory speed and timings than I had in bios version 1.0.

BTW I think it would be very helpful to others that are having this same problem (bad bios flash) if you would start a thread describing the process of building and using the JSPI1 cable. I know I would be interested in gaining this knowledge.

I actually did use 1.2, i had a typo above in my post. It was a generic bios file name in my instructions. I brought the board to work with me to flash it, since I have no running systems with LPT ports. I'll throw the board in tonight if i can, i have to work on the mower tonight also.

Well I had a chance to sit down and run a quick test. Haven't pushed anything, just put in settings I knew would work to see if the board good.

Ok, had to work late and then spend some time with my wife

So here's a quick baseline with my daily driver settings, with everything reinstalled on the new HD and windows 7 64 bit home premium. I wanted to get something posted before Simon blew the whistle...

There you go Dave, I only have a 4850. I don't expect there is much left in it unless I break out the #2 pencil. The cpu can likely be pushed, but it isn't the equal of yours. I'm running 3875, 2750 nb, 1666 777 1T.

Edit: there is more in the 4850, i just have to find it

    AMD Phenom II X4 965BE C3
    Gigabyte MA790XT-UD4P F6 BIOS
    2X2GB G.Skill F3-12800CL7D-4GBRH Ripjaws DDR3 1600

    OCZ Powerstream 520
    Thermaltake Tsunami Dream
Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium

Bear with me, first time with photobucket.

Corrected the screenies. Still at daily driver on the cpu, but I upped the gpu a bit.

    I remember BeepBeep. RIP

It definitely needs the volts, I'm already seeing a little tearing even at 675/1125. It doesn't get very hot (under water) so I may give it a try.

    Well, it's not completely dead...

It still does 690 @ stock volts, 750 after voltmod...or course thats WAY down from before and stability kept decreasing

I remember one of my 4850's. it did 800 easy. I still have that card, though, I have to hold pressure on the back of the card, this I mean, pushing it forward, or it pixelizes badly and won't run 3d

Grinder, Glad you got everything running and was able to post!!

I've updated my screenies above. These were my 24/7 settings, but clearly I hadn't really spent the time to push the 4850. Based on your comments, I revisited it and had no problem @700/1100. Duh.

I'll look later to locate the pencil mod and find out what util to use to push it past 700. I can't remember if I need a bios flash or something other than ati overdrive. For now, I need to go to the hardware store and buy materials to build a gazebo!

Still need to find my cpu limits for these as well, but at least I'm up and running. I had an earlier 3dmark run at 4250 during the fixed multiplier challenge, but the score was a bit lower. Unfortunately, it's not nearly as cold out now.

Charged3800z24 below is one of my 3d05 scores but I had the CPU running about 200MHz faster than yours in that test but the IGP wasn’t clocked up as much as yours. I’d say your score looks in line with my score.

You were talking about placing a fan on the NB to help cool the IGP, I did that for all the tests except for the ones I had the NB under a waterblock. Anyway I touched the heatsink on the NB when it was clocked @1000MHz and it didn’t feel hot, maybe warm but not hot. Water cooling my NB didn’t gain me anything more for clock speed.

Fact is after running mine at 1000MHz for a few dozen tests it began to black screen and now the max IGP clock I can test is 960-980MHz. Maybe your IGP will be stronger than mine but based on my tests it appears as though I should have set 950MHz or less as the max safe overclock for this one.

I ran my last test with this MSI today though, as it died from forgetfulness. All the hammering on this thing and it held-up test after test even at up to 1.7v vcore with 2X4870x2’s overclocked. I had a cooling system water leak that ran water all the way across the MB but I just dried it out and fired it right back up and started testing again. This last one was different though I hooked up the chilled to run a couple of short tests but forget to insulate the upper side, lower edge of the waterblock and a small area of hose above the waterblock. Condensation from the waterblock after the testing when the frost melted killed this little jewel. I’ve had durability problems in the past with the MSI GD70 but this little MSI 890GX has proven durable at least for me. R.I.P. little MSI. Sorry Simon.

I been taking it easy, been afraid to really push it. It has seemed just as stable as my MA790FXT-UD5P, temps lowerd on the 965 a smidge, NB OCs better and the board run over all cooler. Which might explain the drop in CPU temp. BTW, I been known to bring these boards back to life. I must say though, I had a leak on my UD5P and it shut off and wouldn't power pack on even after I dried it. I pull the batter and power, of course, and let it set over night. It worked the next day.

    Heaven benchmark:

The gain from going from 10.3 to 10.4 preview driver was massive in this bench!

There's no temps in the screenshots as all would be idle temps after i ran the benches.

For getting the best result i prefer not to have any temp monitoring programs running in the background but if you specifically want to know temps i will rerun them all with a monitoring tool running Simon.
