See, what many people don't realize is that buying those Gold 80Plus qualified PSUs can save you big bucks when you think about 100% loading for a year straight. I run only Gold certified 80plus power supplies at home because most of my computers are running 24x7. Those 30watts nonstop add up. In fact, most of my PSUs will pay for themselves in energy savings in 18 months or less when compared to the price for the PSU I would have bought if I wasn't looking for efficiency. My crunching rigs will run the most efficient power supplies I can find.
@jcool-Your computer uses 2kw of electricty per hour? Here in the USA on a 120V circuit that equates to approximately 18 amps. Here there's a special plug that you have to use for 15A+ equipment to separate it from the regular 10A plugs. Most homes don't have any 15A+ plugs in their home, except their dryer if it's electricity. Most circuits in homes are 20A breakers. You sure you did the calculations right? Heaters that people use in their homes are typically 1000watts or so tops, and you're claiming your computer does twice the wattage?
