    Hi guys,

Just flashed my bios from F9d to F12 and with same settings have lost some blck. from 226 down to 221. Ill test some more with vcore to see if its worth me sticking with f12 or go back to f9d.

and while im here. does anyone know the safe working temps for nb on the xtreme board. thanks.

Anyone here running a 980x on a X58A-UD5? I bought this combo a couple weeks back and have been having a problem OC'ing it. F5 BIOS is installed BTW. Anyways, starting at around 4.2GHz and all they way up to 4.5GHz, I can run Prime95 for hours and even crunch WCG. But when I run something really stressful like OCCT Linpack x64, the machine just shuts down instantly and reboots, no BSOD or anything. I've tweaked every BIOS setting, both up and down and nothing even makes an improvement. I was faily certain it was the MB causing the problem so I swapped in my old X58-DS4 and it's currently running 180x25 4500MHz with the same voltage settings I used on the UD5, fully stable in OCCT Linpack. Anyone have any ideas? I don't think I can RMA the board since it works fine at stock speed. Personally I think something is wrong with the power delivery circuitry for the CPU socket, or perhaps it's not up to the task of powerig a 980x at high clocks in the first place. Thanks for reading!

Unfortunately, I ran into this problem with an AMD setup I had. I used the GA-MA790XT-UD4P and got some nice overclocks. When I threw in the Gigabyte GA-MA790XTA-UD4 I could not achieve even close to the same stable overclock. I called Gigabyte and it is what it is, If it works on stock, I think we are stuck. Some boards seem to come with better or cleaner voltage and some worse. I would take Andrea's advice and try the F6 bios.

Could someone help me get the right settings for the UD5/i7 920/1600 dominator (3x1gb) combo to run properly at 4Ghz, please?

I'm running on 4Ghz atm, it works ok with simple tasks like browsing, superpi,... but when I try pcmark vantage etc it crashes..

You must have load-line calibration ENABLED ; Performance Enhance NORMAL ; and try to set the RAM timings manual (8-8-8-23).

It's a bit more stable, but still crashing. what else can I try? Idle temps are ±40°C, about 70 before it crashes when stressing it.

The 920 got CPU Stepping C0/C1

Try uncore x17-18, and depending on your CPU you may still need a bit more QPI/Vtt and or Vcore.

Are you getting a BSOD? If so what is the code? (0x00000000)

BSOD Error codes and what they mean:
0X00000050 << Incorrect Memory Timing/Freq or Uncore Multi
    0X00000124 << Incorrect QPI/Vtt Voltage (To Much/Not Enough)
0X00000101 << Not enough Vcore Voltage

So is it worth it to upgrade from one of the first initial BIOS's that I have on my board? Pre S3 resume on overclocked machines. Aside from that fix?

What is the "performance enhance" setting and what should it set to be for overclocking? I would imagine going to Extreme to tighten settings up for RAM, but seems to me people keep recommending standard?

exactly.... on my p45-ud4p i could run standard or turbo i had trouble with extreme at some overclocks.. On my x58-ud5 all i use is extreme.

If you can run extreme use it... It uses tighter timings.

Doesn't seem to affect stability (or speed) as much as some boards/BIOS. I get my OC and primary timings stable at Standard, then switch to Extreme and see if it is still stable, usually good for a little boost in memory bandwidth but not all that much else.

turbo/extreme settings are the subtimings of the ram. With each setting they get more aggressive.

Though with manual tweaking you can do much more.
