He was talking about practice, not marketing... Most LCD specification are not worth taking in consideration when it comes to practice:
Contrast Ratio: 1000 to 1 (typical - as in BS) - typical in certain situations, yet those values are far from the truth in practice, tested with proper equipment.
Brightness: 400 cd/m2 (typical) - same as with contrast.
Dynamic Contrast Ratio: 80,000:1 - as in hype hyper BS, the fact that can get a very high value in a rare situation, isn't worth mentioning, yet they do it for hype.
178º vertical / 178º horizontal - even more BS, the image looks like poo from those viewing angles yet it's stil visible and they took that as a specification, when in reality not even half of those values don't really count.
Response Time: 6ms (gray to gray) Typical - again with the "Typical" part... you might that this is a "dynamic response time" since only rarely shows this value, but they mention it as if it's something worth taking in consideration. Beyond that we have the On/Off and B/W response time which on some LCD's gets has high as 90 ms...
Sorry to correct you, but a big portion of today's movies (dunno the numbers) are 1.85:1, hence you still get big black bars in 16:9 monitors. TV Shows OTOH are 16:9, but you only notice the bars the first 2 seconds.
Worse part in my 24" Benq G2400W is the black bars "tilt" when using my PS3, but still you notice it only if you look there > almost never.
So, I still prefer 16:10 for desktop, you get fairly more screen estate.

Since a few days i own a ZR24w, i almost bought a U2410 but after reading the ZR24w thread @ [H] i thought it was wise to just go for this monitor even while it doesnt look that nice as a U2410.
My first impression is very good but the black levels arent that good comparing it with my good old Dell 2007WFP.
Saying that i also cant get the white levels the same, its more yellow then white on my 2007WFP but thats the because its so damn old i think.
Brightness is on almost on a minimum with my ZR24w en on max with my 2007WFP, maybe i can get them a bit closer together with some calibration hardware but i dont think ill keep this 2007WFP in this setup.

If you're going to buy a monitor with an IPS panel, you really should do it justice with a calibration meter. Heck, even if you don't do any photo work and all you have is a TN monitor, a hardware calibration will still be a night and day difference. I can't even keep my meter away from my laptops.![]()
For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

my 6-year old laptop has an IPS panel... so I've been spoiled rotten. Probably going to dump this 25.5" TN for the ZR24w

I had a Spyder2Pro in the past but it had a red shift in the white balance precision. The Spyder3 is supposed to be a lot better, but their meters are known to be less accurate than others. I now have an X-Rite Eye-One Display LT that is spot on. The LT's luminance measurements are also good down to around 0.004ftL, which is even better than it's more expensive brother. I've calibrated not only my monitors with the LT but my TC-P58S1 plasma as well. Why pay for a pro calibration when you can get great results with your own meter and learn along the way.![]()

The X-Rite Eye-One Display LT wasnt in stock here in the Netherlands and if it was in stock somewhere it was to expensive, same for the X-Rite Eye-One Display 2 so i ordered the Spyder 3 Pro instead.
I can always use some other software if the Spyder software wont be good enough, i will post some pics as soon everything is done.

The moving car does show some ghosting. But, in my personal experience, turning on overdrive does help when it comes to FPS aiming.

S-IPS as a panel isn't as good at displaying black as a TN or S-PVA.
Before you complain about lag, think about Jesus. He lagged three days before respawning.
My monitor comes in today. Assuming I think its acceptable for gaming, 2 more will be ordered as the base for my eyefinity setup. I will post up my impressions of it tonight when I get home.

I have this monitor for several weeks. I think it is the best monitor for gaming today. It is very fast - it may be very well compared to the vx922(which I still have) in terms of speed. The color reproduction is also very good, but it is not as sharp as some pro-models, like 2490wuxi2 or hp lp2475w for example (some details are not as "detailed"...). But for gaming, you hardly need more, unless you are very picky in image quality.
By the way - i read some complains about the black color - well on my display the blacks are more black than they were on the lp2475w model... The white glow is minimal. Probably less than on the mentionned lp2475w, but definitely not more than that.

I've got ZR24w side by side with a Hyundai W241D, and while the black level on the Hyundai is a little better on the Hyundai, it's definitely not "bad" on the HP. If you don't have another monitor there for a side by side comparison you probably won't notice it being a little worse than on a TN/PVA panel.
