Hiding a 560 rad inside my Lian Li PC-X2000

another options is to put the fans in just a pull configuration instead of push/pull,
if it will save your the space you need to use both upper and lower sections of your case,
push/pull doesn't buy you that much more

The case i am customizing is a LIAN LI PC-X2000. The whole idea is to find the biggest radiator out there and completely hide it inside without sacrificing the look of the case.

Basically, it's a "sleeper". Something that looks stock, but when you open the hood its anything but.

The radiator is BLACK ICE GTX GEN TWO EXTREME 560. I will also attempt to have this radiator in push/pull fan setup.

I don't think a case that big can be considered a sleeper IMO, but that's just me

Okay, latest update. The build has gone backwards. I've decided to to make a new frame for the radiator as the first one was slightly too tight. Also, I'll now be turning the rad around so the nozzles face into the case. To do this i had to cut through the top optical bay which was not much more of a big deal than i thought. I'll post more pics the moment i get some free time.

Also, has anyone ever watercooled a Quadro FX card? I'm now looking to watercool mine and was wondering what waterblock would work. Its the 3700 model.



The reference design is almost identical to this GeForce 8800gt.


This block Danger Den should fit, as it's specifically designed for 8800gt.

there is always the option to rotate the rad so that the nozzels are at the bottom. that would give you all the optical bays.

you seem to not want to do this, any reasons why?

I would have done this, but even though i cut through the optical bay, i can still use it. I've managed to install a Zalman fan controller to this bay with the tubing passing just beside it. So there's no need to turn it upside down. Things are tight in that area and if i can i'll get the camera in there and show you how everything is working.

Second frame almost complete, so i thought i'd show some of the internal cuts to the case. All these cuts were done with a Jigsaw.


With the top optical bay cut open, the 560 really fits quite nicely into this case.


She's back out of the case at the moment while i make some finishing touches to the new frame.


Factory cuts have been widened significantly.

With this panel cut wider, i can confirm that push/pull fan setup is gonna happen.

Both optical bays are still in use, so there's no reason to rotate the rad.




The side bay is now cut to run the tubing into the bay area and past the Zalman controller. The factory cut at the rear perfectly fits the tubing to pass through and out.

Found a block that fits the 3700 perfectly.



Obviously i'm using this card for 3D and video editing work i am currently involved in. But as far as gaming side of things go, would it be possible to use this card with two gaming cards in 3-way SLI? Say... two EVGA 470's or 480's? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not for 3D rendering, SLi needs same generation, but it'd do a great job at being used for a dedicated PhysX card.

Great idea. I'll probably do this at a later stage. For now i think i will stick with just the Quadro.

Just a quick update. New frame is almost complete. I thought I'd take a picture in its raw form as this is all i have for now. The frame is actually divided in two parts, the top and bottom. I've clamped them together waiting for the glue to set and later will drill and bolt for strength.


Meanwhile, things are a mess.

Well with regards to the GPU set up you are going to do, I have also using a quadro FX card, I use it for solidworks, I am a currently studying to become a solidworks engineer, I have used a Quadro FX 4600 before then changed over to a GTX 260 and the performance when doing 3d drawing and animations is the same if not better, if you have a old quadro then the newer gaming cards will outperform the quadro's when doing 3d work, but I have also run a gaming card and a quadro in one system (To see if it can be done), it worked great, you will need a monitor that can change between sources (because you will need to display cables) and then all you do is change the source in the nvidia control panel when you want to use each card, don't thing running SLI on two gaming cards and having a quadro in the system will be a problem (Tried and tested with one gaming and one quadro).

Found some time to work on the new frame. Just needs some finishing touches before i paint it black.



The rad can slide in and out quite easily and will be secured when i find more time.







Finally seeing some completion to the project here.
