Totally uncomparable hardware, you haven't even tried this unit. Really comparing apples with oranges mate or was it bananas ?

The H50 does pretty well bang for the buck and is a piece of art for those that don't want to mess with cutting tubing, leak tests etc and is brilliant package for those that lack space, time,... experience and money for a "real" watercooling setup...

Only thing I don't know is how durable it will be in the long run... for the rest it works well...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Has anyone experienced different results while running the board in a horizontal position rather than a vertical? There seems to be less of a temperature difference between the cores when running in the horizontal position.

Just gutted my PC out to sell it on, put it into a Coolermaster 690 Advanced II fitted the H50 with two Akasa AK-FN057 Apache fans, push-pull obviously.
The results are just amazing to put it bluntly:

    Ambient temp. 16C

Maximum temp. Never went over 65 in the end using OCCT.

Edit: Let me add, before this i was using the Megahalems Rev B cooler, and it performs almost the same, 1-2 degrees difference max at load, the H50 is cooler at idle though..
But the H50 is quieter and the motherboard is also cooler using this by a good 3-4 degrees (Gigabyte UD5).
That is pretty decent for the H50 (not amazing but for the price its a great cooler), for comparisons sake I get about 65-69c (from lowest to highest core temp) at 4ghz i7 920 with 1.35vcore and slightly higher ambients with a IFX-14 (more expensive than the h50 even before factoring in fans) / 3x fans spinning at a lazy 1000rpm fully loaded across all cores with the latest prime95.

The h50 is a very nice, and fairly strong performer

It's not designed to fit socket F. However, you may be able to mod the mount if you wish.

@Yellowbeard: There are any compatibility issues with the liquid metal pro from coollaboratory?

We have not done any testing with that stuff. I'd suggest you ask the manufacturer.

If the base is pure copper it should be ok. From the pictures I've seem so far I'd say it's safe but I'm not sure it's worth it. The original Asetek had an aluminium base that resulted in something like this:

I've seen that pic too and it was the main reason why i posted here. Afaik that horror story is from a dell/alienware rig cooled by an asetek based lclc. But all the asetek lclc based coolers i've seen so far had copper base so why the cooler's above base ended up like that is a complete mistery to me. Maybe dell/alienware wanted to save a buck or two and took the cheaper aluminum base wich reacts with the galium in the liquid metal pro by coollaboratory. Can't wait to get my hands on a Corsair H50 and put it to the test

PS: Maybe you Corsair guys will be kind enough and include soon an extra set of screws for push-pull configs. Not everybody has a R/C store nearby and it definately is a cleaner look & better solution than zip ties. Keep up the great work guys! You rock!

I have a H50 installed but only 3 of the retention screws are tight the fourth is loose lol
ive also taken the crazy cool plate off and the SB heatsink is loose LOL
ive left it like that for about 3 months at least now.

    my idle temps are
    ambient 20° ? approx
    motherboard 47°
    cpu cores 37° 36° 37° 37°
    1.325vcore 3200Mhz 400fsb 1000Mhz ddr2 2.11v
I have a portable fan next to open case and cool mb down when gaming and on hot days.

    I plan on using this H50 again when i get my i7 930 x58a-ud5 and corsair 1866c7 6gb dominators and c300 128gb ssd
    should be no problem right?

No, I don't have any pictures available but the AM2/3 mounting method is EXACTLY the same. 4 screws through the MOBO into the back plate using the AMD version of the retention bracket.

But for AMD you have to remove the backplate on the motherboard I assume?

The early versions of the H50 attachment ring+backplate came with 2 sets of screws. One set was for the stock AMD back plate and the other was for the Corsair supplied back plate. If you get the newer version, you do have to use the Corsair supplied back plate.

    Thanks

    I have a CM HAF932 with this airflow-configuration:
    1 x 230mm front (in)
    4 x 120mm side (in)
    2 x 120mm top (out)
    1 x 120mm back (out)

Which one of these two would be best configuration for this cooler/case?
    • 1 x 230mm front (out) <- Risk of increase HDD temps
    • 4 x 120mm side (in)
    • 2 x 120mm top (out)
    • 1 x Corsair H50 back (in)

    or
    • 1 x 230mm front (in)
    • 4 x 120mm side (in)
    • 1 x 120mm top (out)
    • 1 x Corsair H50 top (in)
    • 1 x 120mm back (out)

Anyone else have any good ideas?

Liquid Pro is corrosive to aluminum. It should NEVER be applied to any aluminum heatsink. In case of this hydro, it was just aluminum base with copper coloring.

I think it's a real copper plate mate, not copper coloring. Might check with the bad review sample upstairs... gonna mod that one anyway with a reservoir and normal tubing...

    push pull

    Hi,

When you set up the push pull config, did you do it the "corsair" way or the other way around; ie was the push fan blowing air into your case or out of it?

    Thanks!

Anyone switched H50 cpu block for a GPU water block?

I recently purchased a Corsair H50 to use temporarily while I was getting a part for my regular cooling system. I was very impressed with the performance of the H50 given its small size and price; using the H50 my Core i7 965 Extreme slightly over-clocked to 3.4ghz idled at 32c and would not exceed 40c even under stress.

As I no longer need the H50 for my CPU, I am looking at changing the cooling block with a GPU block for an HD 5870, such as the Swiftech MCW60. I am running 5870's in crossfire and have room in my case for two H50's if the experiment works. Without running calculations and simply based on my CPU cooling results as well as observing the much lower temps the 5870 runs at (idling now at 33c) as opposed to previous gen cards, it could be that an H50 could have a big impact on temperature range.

So if anyone has converted the H50 by replacing the block I would greatly appreciate any tips you might have, including whether this is even worth trying. THANKS

I don't think you will be able to replace the block in H50. As you can see the pump and the block are fixed together so i guess there is no way to use the same pump with different block.

Actually the tubing between the two is flexible and is inserted into what appear to be about half inch tall posts on the water block. I am just wondering if their are pitfalls such as can extra coolant be added and still keep the sealed loop system free of air? Thanks though
