Best test is linx and after that 10 hours prime. Linx temps are ~5 degrees up according to prime, and usually for successful linx pass 1-2 steps higher Vcore is needed.

hmm i've got a problem with a new build.. for 2nd evga board
tested on both boards..
4ghz HT on stable 12 hours prime95 blend 5.4gb, 100 runs linx ram 2010 bclk 201
4.3ghz/4.4ghz HT off stable ram 2060/2110 bclk 206/211.. 12 hours prime 5.4gb, 100 runs linx temps for both are low around 60+
but i cant run HT on stable. which temps on linx before it fails at 11 rounds is max around 77,81.. which is the max passes i got so far with ht on for both. no throttling signs from turbo tool etc.
any input on this??
still confused.

Def prime95 good for stability and use Coretemp or any program that you can keep an eye out on your temps cuz your comp will be under load 100%.

Hey mate.
Hmm, HT on needs a fair bit more Vcore - esp. in LinX (I think you know)... Temps are fine IMHO, throttling/heat related instability starts at around 85°C most of the time.
Did you try the following things:
- vary cpu pll (best for me was a low 1.5V)
- increase ioh (1.25-1.3V should be plenty)
- vary cpu pwm and vtt pwm frequencies (highest is not always the best choice)
- alter cpu impendance and/or qpi signal comp.
...
What error you get from LinX btw? BSODs or lockups? Errors out?
Sometimes VTT has to be increased, even if the uncore obviously has nothing to do with the symptoms.
Also check if the cpu is seated well inside the socket. There have been the weirdest issues with that...
Greetz,
Stefan.
i tested the cpu at lower dram and was stable with ht on 4.3ghz 4.4ghz linx 50 runs
something weird here bro..
previous proc wasnt like this..
i used the voltage i got and even upped it a lot more for the high uncore /dram one.. and it will error out.
higher vtt will result in losing ram.. like 4gb detect 2gb detect.
all the previous proc overclocks were simple.. get ht off settle .. up vcore to get ht on ..
this one .. not the case.
example.. trying to get 4.3ht on now stable
4.3ghz stable clocks ht off also weird setting
rtl 54,57,59.. skew 100, pcie 103, ioh/qpi 1.175, cpu pll 1.65v, compesationg etc auto,vtt pwm 3xx, cpu 9xx
the ht off is dead stable.
it can become stable if i change the subtiming of the mem.. the read to read from stock 6 to 7 for ht on
eh resetting the cpu atm a bit hard because of the usage of non reusable thermalpaste
does it sound like weak imc here??

Not spamming, its a forum with which whome anyone can post on. But anyways i ran LinX and passed .. Gonna OC a bit more and see if i can hit 4.5 stable thru the 20 passes.

found the prob SAE
stupid bios 44
went back to S61B
should have never used that bios in the first place.. all the mem timings were dead wrong for elpida hypers
kk. Glad you found it. The 4x bioses were all bad for nehalem so far. They seem to work best with gulftown.
got my new board from evga E760 classified, its Rev 1.1, anyone know the difference between Rev 1.0 and 1.1? thanks.
Maybe the fact you can run X5xxx Xeons without hardmods?!
/edit.

WOW, finally! Thanks, EVGA!* Updates VT to correct issue with not enabling on specific setups.
* Corrects issue where memory timings change after S3 resume on some configurations.
Edit: back to double pump VT for some users, though.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cool the PWMs? Because of my case configuration, I have no airflow over the PWMs. I was looking at the Antec SpotCool fan, would that work?
hey guys i cant seem to stay stable with my i7 940 cpu when im doing 4.2 or 4.3 ghz .. Any suggestions on some settings here please? Maybe a voltage list of some users that can help me out would be great so i know what to tweak out exactly ?

The 940 is a C0 chip, so 4.2-4.3 is not as reachable as it is on a D0 chip. Microcenter has D0 920s going for $180 a piece, you may want to consider picking one up if you really want to hit 4.2GHz+.
does anybody know what services need to be enabled for eleet to run in windows diagnostic mode??

did you set the x-cool jumper to the other position?
or use the cold mode in the bios at least?
my board seems to prefer the jumper tho
when i set the jumper on mine i can boot 99.8% time with DICE
