If you buy a fermi, it uses more power than the 5970.

Fermi hits 93c load with NVIDIA's special gargantuan cooler and air vented/cut PCB at stock. Isn't there also a 1.Xa Delta Fan in that equation?
My 100+ CFM 120'mm's don't use that much and I have a 3500 RPM AVC 70mm here from an AMD box cooler rated for .7v.

I hate Jen-Hsun Huang, he's a complete deuche for all the renaming schemes and his dirty marketing. He completely deserves this, I hope they fall into the state that Intel put AMD in, so that they're still on the market to keep competition, but are forced to suffer

According to this the 480 only consumes 16 more watts than the 5970. Assuming you haven't taken a physics course yet, a Watt is a Joule per Second. Keep in mind that a Joule is a very small amount of energy, which is why energy is often recorded in terms of KiloWatt-hours (which is essentially 1000x3600 Joules). So putting that into perspective, 16 watts really won't make a difference, even over the course of a year's use.

However, compared to the 4870 (which it is only slightly more powerful in many cases), the 480 consumes 150 more watts. Multiply that by 3600 seconds in an hour, and an average of 2 hours a day, times 7 days a week, and finally 365 days in a year, and then yes, the difference would be quite large. Would those savings much up the cost of another 4870? I couldn't tell you, I have no clue what electricity rates are in most places.

I've had only Nvidia since the 6800 but I'm really glad I bought my 5870 back in December for $300. This looks awful. Barely faster than $5870, $500, and 100+ watts more?

I don't know why people are complaining about the temperatures. I remember the X800 or X1800 series (don't remember which) that would go over 100 degrees C in some cases and people still loved them. I'm not going to argue about the power consumption though lol.

Im gonna bet the temp will go down quite a bit once you yank the cooler, replace thier goop and use AS5 or eq and remount.

My 8800GT dropped 10C just by doing the thermal goop correctly.

Fermi's better be cheaper than RV870 is these numbers are "credible." Judging from the heat output and the power load, it seems like it's not impressive at all.

I've also seen a review on TPU, the numbers are more impressive than the one given by Hexus. Can't wait for the "real" reviews.

HEXUS's priceing is way off, or at least EU prices are screwed up. 40% more than a 5870? What the hell? It's more like 20% from everything I see here.

Hexus used an average price, taking into account many e-shops in the United Kingdom. £440 for a GTX480 is below the average, taking Scan as a source, minimum £428 ~ £504 maximum, average would be around £460. The price seems ridiculous, kind normal when products launch, demand is higher and so the prices.

That's pricely what I was saying. As I pointed out before, 16 Joules per second is a minuscule amount of power. Unless if electricity is extremely expensive where you live, I doubt that would amount to $100 difference, even over the course of 2 years. Most likely you're looking at the difference of pennies each day you game a few hours.

Sorry, forget what I said, I quickly deleted that part of my post once I realized you had just misread it. Sometimes I over analyze posts, and also usually people don't look at the username or posts anyways before replying and it appears that you would have expected that due to how you say you have contributed alot to this forum and have a lot of posts. Anyways, I was surprised that you had actually caught that and made a post out of it, it got me a bit frustrated because I wasn't really serious about it anyways
