3DMark Vantage single-card with Gulftown ES + Asus Rampage III Extreme and Asus EAH5870 (reference card):

    System:

    - Intel Gulftown ES CPU
    - Asus Rampage III Extreme
    - Corsair Dominator GTX2
    - Intel X25-E SSD
    - PC Power & Cooling 1200W
    - Win 7 32-bit

This time I could push EAH5870's Cypress GPU to over 1400 MHz and Vantage was OK @ 1410 MHz (1,55V & -100 Celsius). Currently 2nd in hwbot.org 1xGPU ranking but no way to reach Nick's P31k score (2 CPUs and Classified SR-2).

Couple didn't fit in the picture. Good Cypress can clock to 1400-1500 with LN2.

That's a nice card Sampsa, I'm interested to know how much of a difference you saw between this one and all the rest on air. It would be funny if this one outdid the other cards you plan on testing, let's hope not anyway

On air 25-35 MHz higher, I could run Vantage GPU @ ~1080 MHz while others did 1050-1060 MHz. Mostly it's all about how good the GPU is, but strong GPU and strong PCB design of course helps

I had a reference 5870 that used to pass Vantage at 1080/1300 with the stock cooler ( no mods, just raised Vgpu via software )... but with Dry Ice & LN2 it wouldn't get past 1300GPU & 1250 mem in any benchmark

Similarly, my newest ref. 5870 maxed out at 1055/1300 Vantage with the stock cooler, but did 1350/1240 on LN2.

I don't think pretesting on air/stock can be considered a good indication of how it might overclock at subzero temps.

Yes you are right, of course air pretesting is not sufficient for LN2 testing All cards were tested first with air and then with LN2. Couple samples overclocked well with air but couldn't handle cold, so we picked next in line..

I think the main problem on 5870 (reference!) is OVP, OCP and/or cold issues - hitting 1200 is no big deal on DICE, 1300 is relatively easy on LN2 but more than 1.45V (!!!) and a good scaling with cold is not that easy to find. as sampsa stated 1500+ should be realistic with enough good cards with the right pre-testing and hardmods. specially the hardmods for OVP should give you the needed boost.
