Praz they are good numbers with those Hyper X what phenom and you running? What do you guys think the best for everyday use is? I have tried a lot of memory in this AMD rig and it is hard pressed to fine any memory that runs as good as the OCZ (ANIMAL) memory in my MSI GD-70. But the problem is they are hard to fine so I would like to get something as a very good back up just in case.. Thanks guy..

The processor is 555BE. I'm sure there will some disagreement with this but my take for 24/7 memory is anything that will run 1333 CAS6 or 1600CAS7. Anything faster is nice but not really noticeable from a user experience in day to day use.

I posted a couple of Corsair newer models 2000/2200 links earlier and did not hear from folks. I know Chew had some benching on the 2000 I believe.

Are these units worth their weight in $$? Everyday use, some gaming?

Do not buy it if it's rev. 2.2 because that rev. uses BBSE and not Hyper.

So being that I have an MSI GD70, I'm considering turning it into an HTPC and getting another board for my main Rig! DO you guys recommend the UD5 or one of the Asus Motherboards!?

The reason that I'm cosidering is because I hit this Speed on an Asus M4A785TD-V EVO with 1600Mhz C8 1.65v Kingston Hyper's! Granted it's with extremely loose timings (set to auto) but still....

So what do you guys recommend? (Chew*) !

I reccomend usable performance timings as always.

I can post up 2000mhz ram at gross timings but I won't

If board can do gross timings high but can't run tight it's useless.

For that matter if it can't 32m high it's not really usable as well.

Got it! I was just using that as an example of why I want to get a different motherboard instead of using the MSI GD70. It wouldn't do even post anywhere near that high, even with crappy timings like that, with the same ram.

What board would you recommend, from your experience and testing. Gigabyte ud5 or one of the Asus boards? Any Specific one?

    Thanks!

gigabyte probably won't net you any ram records.....

It all depends on what your trying to accomplish.

I use gigabyte namely as they are proven and reliable on ln2.

Asus has never steered me wrong or acted up at -78C and warmer temps, clocks ram higher without sacrificing performance/timings.

For 24/7 use however it all boils down to pref, layout and features that work for you.

Well I'm not looking for any records, just high end stability and over average performance for AM3 setup. I won't be going LN2 or Even D-Ice...

Do you prefer the Crosshair III over the M4A79T?

Also, how are the BIOS on the Gigabyte and Asus Boards compare to the MSI? Do you like any over the other?

    giabyte keeps it simple.

Asus is a little trickier but not so much.

Well, I guess I'm wondering what's so special about the 890 chipset other than SATAIII 6.0 and USB 3.0? Do you really think that the 890 is going to be that profound to spend the money on it as soon as it comes out? (No offense) Having to deal with the inconvenience of poor BIOS and waiting for new BIOS. I';m not trying to be pesimistic. So please forgive me if I'm sounding as such. I'm just trying to think logically!

I know that you're a logical person Chew. So I'm only trying to find reason in that suggestion. Which for clarification, I appreciate!

I honestly don't know what other benefits the 890 Chipset has other that what I've stated. I know that AMD will be making some major improvement in the next year but is this really one of them?

    Thanks! Cheers!

If you don't mind me asking, which BIOS rev. is that you're using, and where can I get it? I just got a GD70 with what appears to have BIOS rev 1.7, and I suspect that there are newer/better BIOS revisions available.

Without trying to be biased, i've never experienced any immaturety with early Asus bios'.

    Unlike DFI for example.

As soon as the new Crosshair IV comes out i'll jump straight onto it.

I agree with Chew. 890FX is coming out and is gonna replace the existing 790FX models. The amount of money you're looking to spend (between $180-$200) on a Giga UD5 or a Crosshair 3, is the same ammount of money you'd spend in April on a top of the line 890FX board. Seeing that you already have a 790FX board and a good one at that, I would just wait till april and pick-up a nice shiny 890FX. It just seems kinda silly to spend the money on a high-end mobo at this point in time.
