Still too low ..........Not sure I can strip out any more dross . A lot better than it was though .

Nice run there Sniper, maybe you can put an SS on and go for LowFat's run .

Well, 4.7+ ht on is not gone happen on water with my chip. But I'v had SS before, not doing that again.

LowFat's run is also with very low gflops, looks almost like throtling.

I quess it is time to go 32nm, just wish they didnt cost so much.

32nm is working well for me - look at #1 here - http://service.futuremark.com/search...ingsystem=-100

Thanks - an extreme cooled 980 can beat that but only with a good storage array.

My first 980 submit to you.
I think I can go higher.
Cooled via chilled water - 2x boreas in series to an apogee xt block, mcp pump with xspc top.
Pcie at 115 - can this cause low gflops?

Your Gflops are really low i got around 6x Gflops with 4.6Ghz, i dont think the PCIe is the culprit. In any case the voltage is quite nice

Try a higher clock and see where your Gflops go even if it means i will be taken out of my no. 2 position lol

Newhit's gflops looks bang on to me for 8x me and 16x uncore... Could add another 5-8 gflops by going to 2000mhz 8-9-8 and 20x uncore.

Glad I could help dude .

Yeah, I guess the different mp/bclk/timings etc can add up too the difference I see when I test linx gflops at the same speed.

I'm peaking at 66.xx Gflops on the X5677 at 4.65Ghz, more clock = less Gflops and tighter RAM/faster RAM = less Gflops

I figured LinX would be a 100% linear scale with cores and clocks, but guess not

On my 980, if I drop Linx from using 4 to 1GB memory my gflops increases from 53.xx to 69.xx, seems like it should be decreasing not increasing?

Agreed. I'll give it a shot when I get home, no that Gflops matter all that much. I still love LinX to do a quick 10 pass test and if it passes that, I haven't had an OC fail at F@H that made 10 passes (fastest way to find a quick stable OC for me)

I find linx very sensitive to L3 cache speed. Higher uncore = much higher gflops. TRCD timing makes a big difference too.

The 980x L3 cache also has a higher latency than quad cores. Which I think is where the decrease of gflops is coming from.

That could be, the 32nm Xeons seem to be locked at 20x uncore so can't crank it up too much.

66 is too low? Just fine if you ask me...

Thanks guys. The mb is bclk modded and I think it could do up to 232 bclk in LinX.

I actually saw 69 gflops last night when trying for 4788, but it stopped with error after the 5 pass.

    SS yes or no

    Have to ask Sniper,
You don't seem too keen on SS. I notice you talk from past experience. What is your dislike of it (I haven't been around for a while)? Also, is this "bclk mod" easy to do (I'm ok with a soldering iron)? What does it involve?
Not to try to get ahead of you of course

The bclk mod is for "old" GB X58 non A mb's wich is limited to max 103 pci bus without the mod.

I'v had 2 SS back in the good old Athlon XP/P4 days, a VapoChill and a Prom. Both worked ok for a while I guess, but there where several disadvanteges for me:
    - They produce more nois than my water cooling setups.
    - There's allways a risk of condensation.
    - Greasy sockets, cpu's and mb's.

The last one is the worst. I like to test out different cpu's and mb's all the time, and with a SS all your parts will be greasy and full of goofy stuff.

You also need to refill and tune a SS to match your cpu's power draw for max performance.

I'm not saying a SS is bad, just not for me and my use.

    Ohh, and please do

I can do 69.xx gflops with the 980x but it has to be with 1GB memory used.
If I go to higher memory the gflps drop to 53.xx at 4GB, odd.
The proc seems to be doing fine otherwise - pcmark vantage numbers are very good.
