Apple Files Patent Lawsuits Regarding Mobile Technology

Apple is currently suing HTC to block the import of Android handsets into the U.S. Apple claims that it invented a host of technologies including a touch-screen finger-swipe unlock gestures, mobile object oriented graphics, and undervolting a mobile CPU via an interrupt. These somewhat vague and far-reaching patents form the basis of Apple's claims. Apple CEO Jobs released a statement casting his company as the tireless innovator and his rivals as thieves.

Sorry if this is a repost, I figured this would have been posted but couldn't find it.

I'm a proud, satisfied owner of an iPhone but this is just ... They really think that they invented mobile CPU undervolting? LOL! It's especially frightening that they were actually awarded this patent. Although they legitimately have these patents, I really doubt that Apple (Steve Jobs basically) believes that it will ultimately win this battle. Apple is probably aiming to scare companies from allying themselves with HTC, because of fear that it won't be able to sell handsets in the US. In the mobile market, Apple currently doesn't have any other strategy to combat HTC's newer phones because the 3rd generation iPhone isn't due until next year when AT&T's 4G infrastructure is implemented. Regardless of whatever their intentions, one thing is for certain -- these patents are BS, the lawsuit is BS, and it's all a great example of the US's aging patent system.

Can't help but think about this youtube video...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW0DU...layer_embedded

And its not like iphone hasn't been selling well.
Just the idea that a company owns a patent for undervolting mobile cpu, is something I do not like.

How much longer will they patent I-Taly and claim Italy.

Maybe they should patent mobile phone device running of a battery next.......

The USPTO needs a serious reform. Some of the patents they grant are beyond funny.
Seems we made our greatest error when we named it at the start
for though we called it "Human Nature" - it was cancer of the heart

    fixed.

So are they gonna go after Motorola (droid) and LG (enV touch) and others who have the finger swipe to unlock? Doubt it, not yet at least. HTC is smaller, so easier to pick on the little guy.

Apple is sounding more and more like rambus, and being a winy kid. And others wonder why I hate apple so much, this is just yet another reason

He did because she kept on using 'Jobs,' as her second name after he copyrighted it. She countersued him though because he used her maiden name in security questions after she had copyrighted it. They settled out of court if I remember and they are still amicable but he no longer goes round every sunday for her traditional roast. And she refuses to use an i Phone instead opting for the TG02 because it is based on windows and she knows that will iritate her son when she does see him at family get togethers like christmas.

Seriously though they were allowed to patent 'finger swipe unlocking motions.' I suppose its possible to patent 'finger pronouncing off motions' as well then is it!?

Because Bill Gates actually has the money to stand up to Apple before he would let the company he started die.

He doesn't have time to wipe with toilet paper - He's too busy thinking up patents.

It sucks that HTC keeps breaking the law and infringing on Apple's patents, i know companies historiclly cant help themselves but copy Apple, and in this case directly copy Apples technology

i know this forum will bizarrely misconstrue this into Somehow being apples fault (aparently its evil to protect your patent?)

Ask yourselves, if the technology is to 'stupid' and pointless', then why is HTC replicating it? hmmm....

The issue is not that Apple is protecting their patents but that the patents in question are too vague, far reaching, obvious, and/or ill-defined. All of the major corporations send in huge amounts of requests for patents on things that should not be, knowing that many should not be patentable, so that they have bargaining chips with the other corporations.

Also is generally not common for patent issues to actually go to court, as they are extremely unpredictable, and those required to make judgments seldom have any capacity to understand the issues. The most obvious purpose, to me, would intimidation, due to the extremely high cost of the legal fees.

Multitasking support, a feature previously defined by Apple as nonessential, is even being added to the iPhone this summer. This really is just foul play.
