If I turn off hyperthreading it works at 4.2 Ghz @ 1.4v and stays at 70 degrees.

If I enable HT, it only stays on 70 degrees at 3.8 Ghz and 1.3v, and needs 1.45v for 4.2 Ghz.

Those are voltages in the Bios, they show up as a lot lower in CPUZ. I am just turning off HT then and using 4.2 Ghz at 70 degrees.

I use the paste that came with the cooler and all silent LED fans (6 total). I dont think the airflow is the problem because the HSF remains only slightly warm, and if I buy a megahalem, no one is going to want to buy my Triton and I'll just have lots of spare fans.

Intel say that 85 deg is max as after that the heat will begin to slowly deform the motherboards CPU socket. So I wont be running 4.2 Ghz with HT, I just used it for a nice vantage score.

I could have applied some MX III after getting the new PSU I ordered (FSP one in my sig), but Im cancelling it in the morning as reviews show it to be an overated 800 watt PSU, and not as good quality as my OCZ. Im getting two new Samsung F3s to replace my sluggish F1s though, no need to change anything else, just could use some MX III but I cant be bothered reseating the CPU again.

Heres a screenshot with HT off:

I've seen some good clocks with the 3910
What ticks me off with this thread is there are what 70ish pages yet no update to the OP with anyones scores to the chart. So if you want to find a batch and see what others have done with it you:
    1. Do what you did which clutters up the thread (don't worry I've done it also considering this thread doesn't do what it should be doing)
2.Spend a few hours looking through threads.

This thread needs some serious work or to be deleted and started all over again and actually updated on a regular basis. I mean I'm trying to finally get a decent 920 after picking up so many for members at [H]Forum since they don't live near a MC all of those were good chips. Here I can get one and they don't have jack for good chips all high 39##A3##+ chips which I never see anyone posting any great things about. So last night I went to ebay and then coming to this thread trying to find some of those batches was a joke.

I made a self updating database of batches and overclocks, but people kept posting in here despite me saying this exact scenario of no OP updates and impossible to locate information would occur.

    My thread is here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=238451

Submit your overclock & batch information using the form, and view or download the spreadsheet for you personal use.

    Batch No. 3850A796

    4 Ghz with HT on:

It seems fine for 4 Ghz with HT / 4.2 Ghz without HT on air, and looks like 4.2-4.4 Ghz with HT would be possible on water.

I also increased my ram voltage references and now its running at 7-7-7-20 1600 Mhz

Took me long enough to get there.

    No, it's not C0. I've got Xeon w3520 3844A704, it's D0 obviously, because there
    weren't xeons with c0/c1 batch.

    Clocking as in signature.

here's mine, already primed for 6 hours before this screenshot.

    3.8ghz HT on
    batch - ???
    vcore - 1.1375v
    vtt - 1.375v
    vdim - 1.65v
    all other voltages default
    cooling - stock

temps on the stock cooler prevents me from increasing vcore any higher, which prevents any higher clocks. vcore in bios was set to 1.1375v, but for some reason this board significantly increases in cpuz (1.176v) when LLC is turned on. i will look at batch when i switch mobo in a week! this is my first i7-920, so is this chip just average or should i expect better results?

    the better batch?

    Hi,

Which one of these is the better performer in your opinion?

    I have:
    3845B259
    3849B040

So a week 45 and a week 49. Does the actual batch number after the letter "B" matter?

Also can you please recommend a motherboard as well? I had these 3 in mind.
    Foxconn Bloodrage (the original)
Gigabyte UD7 (I do not know if Sata 3 support means anything right now? )
    EVGA 760 Classified

    Thanks!

    Probably imprecise software reading.

    Hard call. Looking at my Ci7 OC Spreadsheet, there is a 3845B259 at 4.2GHz 1.25v, and 2 3849B040, one at 4.2GHz @ 1.25v and another at 4.2GHz @ 1.37v - that's the only info I have on either batch.

Yes the numbers after the 'B' matter - the whole batch number is important.

    Thank you very much.

What type of cooling was used with those overclocks?

That is using water with the CPU on its own loop.

I just added mine to the database:

    I7 920 D0
    Batch: 3939B977

To get to 21x198 (4.14GHz) HT ON it needs 1.3375 in BIOS (1.3289 load, 1.3406 idle). Can't even think of 4.2GHz with this chip (without a full WC setup).

Time for a trip to microcenter for an exchange. Maybe I'll get luckier next time.

If you can find one, the 3938B020 and 3938B024 batches seem to be the best new batches I've seen results of. There's a couple in my spreadsheet (linked above) have a look.

Thank you for the spreadsheet reference. 3849B040 looks to be the better option over the 3845B259 if I make a decision on those observations.

Either one should be better than the average 920, so in those terms you can't go wrong with either one.

Someone can tell me what could be? Case (CM 690 w / 6 fans 70CFM/19 db (A)) is well ventilated, 50 ~ 55 º C in a cpu cooler that is complicated.

I tried to update the BIOS and not resolved.

As stated above my post. I would try to reapply TIM and remount the cooler, seems like you either applied the TIM wrong or the cooler is not seated right.

I've tried to set up another four times the cooler and reapply the thermal compound NT-H1 and AS5 and no improvements in temperature. Ambient temp 28°C.

What is the temperature of its core i7 920 stock clock in Prilimatech Megahalems?
