hey sunfire, thanks a lot for keeping this thread up to date. i would be so lost on which recommended one if you didn't keep on spamming the thread . how come they didn't list the 6.10.36 on the WCG website? it's currently 6.2.28, so is that one any good?

WCG is modifying BOINC - at least, their version is using a custom skin. Don't know about any function change/improvement.

    6.10.37 recommended:

    Windows 32 bit

    Windows 64 bit

    Well....That was pants !!!

I honestly don't remember what I did in the past to upgrade to the latest Boinc or whether I've done this on my vista rigs before, but this week before adding Grid to one rig I went to the Boinc website, downloaded the latest 64bit windows version and, even though it saw where I had my previous install and put the new in the same folders, on completion it failed to see the previous work and asked me which project I wanted to attach to.

My question...What did I do wrong??

    (This was on Vista 64)

Dunno, use Vista 64 too and that has not happened to me in the past but I have not updated since 6.10.17 either.

There was one time when updating BOINC ed up all the config files, WUs etc. Was quite some time ago though, more than a year.
I guess if your BOINC client was that old, and you updated, then well... that happened.

Does work fine with recent versions though, no hassle at all. Just install the new version over the old one.

Older BOINC versions used only one folder, but the new ones are using two. One for the software and one for data. Maybe you just have to copy the data files to the right place.

I'm thinking that what I have been running is my beginners install from WCG so that may have been 32bit version...who knows? Maybe it was the change to 64bit that did it

Switching between 32 and 64bit versions part way through a work unit is a cert to kill it. It's only a couple of units though, so I wouldn't sweat it.

Was using 6.10.39 on my main rig; keeps crashing it as soon as I leave town . I'm going back to 6.10.18 as soon as I get home!
