Are you using MDPC heatshrink? Other heatshrink I've used has been too thick, and was unable to go into the connector (even with my method above).

I believe so. lol... The black I've ordered awhile back I cut up in 6" sections. I believe it is! I'll be ordering more soon.

P.S. I know this is strange, can you post a pic of your heatgun? You using a metal shroud at the end of your gun as well to keep the heat constrained?

No concentration adapter; to ensure the sleeve doesn't melt, I put my thumb and index finger right up next to the heatshrink - if my fingers start to burn, I know I'm missing the heatshrink.

Can you give any tips on how to get them all perfectly straight and cut to exactly the same length? I've done my whole psu and its come out awesome, I've uber happy with it, but the heatshrink is nowhere near straight across (its varied, but I think it looks cool).

Sure, but it might not be the answer you want to hear.

To cut them to the same length, I have a piece of Styrofoam with a cutout (length 0.5"). The heatshrink is then pressed into the cutout, and scissors do their job.

Just make sure the sleeve is exactly the same distance from the end of the pin, then secure it in place with self-closing tweezers or fingers. Put the heatshrink over the sleeve and pin. Tilt the wire slightly downwards, so that the end of the heatshrink rests before the two fins on the pin. Then shrink away.

If the distance from the end of the exposed heatshrink to the end of the sleeve is too long, then take an exacto knife and cut away a small ring. If the HS is too short, cut it off and start again.

Well actually I haven't had to do that for a while, and I sleeve about 16 wires every day.

Quick Question

Was wondering if its ok for me to use one of my PCIE 6 pin cables from my old CM Real Power PSU into my Decathlon PSU as its cable is on an 8pin PCIE as well which I won't need right now.

I'm guessing its the same cables used?

ok I have a question. I have the corsair 950TX non modular. how will I single sleave the molex and sata cables?? the rest are easy due to them being straight wires but the molex and sata are multi headed wires making it seem impossible to sinlge sleave them. yes cry1s_gam3r FTW!! cant wait m8 that sleave should be in any day now huh?? cannot wait. I got some other tripple weave non see through sleave to do my fan wires and extensions with as I want them to look different and stand out a bit.

Your tips were great. The biggest thing was inserting the wire into the molex connector right after heatshrinking. The heatshrink inserted into the molex with a little effort and BAM!!! My 8-pin motherboard plug turned out great! Thanks again for the help. I appreciate it.

Electrical/Insulation tape?

Just tape i guess not too thick?

Yes, also apply it lengthwise if you use it.

No, a very well stretched sleeve is way stronger than tape.

As Nils said, apply it lengthwise. It's very important that you stretch it, otherwise it will not be sticky enough. I generally cut it about 2 inches shorter than the cable, and then stretch the rest. Then I press the top of the tape onto the wire, and roll the rest on.

Here's a picture of what it looks like. It's not 100% aligned, but the look is what I wanted to achieve. Thanks Crys1s for the tip of inserting right when it's still warm/hot as it's still applyable... You see that you can see the black and yellow a little seeping through the white. That's okay to be honest because when it's in the case and a "white LED" strip is applied it really whitens up the white sleeve which produces a more of a solid white. The taping method would be the end all be all, but damn! that's a lot of work! lol...

There is much more potential in the sleeve. It will close 100% and become absolutely non-seethrough if you stretch it lengthwise correctly. Don't get lazy because of tape
