hicookie, what would happen if we just shorted the point where the resistor goes or used a pencil? What voltage does it control?

Anyways, on my UD4P, my first PCI-E x16 slot is dead as well as the orange x4 slot right above it. When powering on my rig with either of my 4890's in the first x16 slot, the computer turns all the way on, but the monitor never shows any video. However, the second x16 as well as the third, full length x8 slot all work flawlessly.

If I was to have someone finish this modification for me and solder the resistor into the new space (marked with green on HiCookie's image), would the functionality of the first PCI-E slot return?

I've been afraid to clock my 920 back up there because I don't want to break the board any more than it already is. I took enough of a gamble running it without the resistor in the first place.
Kayl lost his resistor too, but had no problems with his board

thats what I just did tonight. Lost the darn thing once I finally got it off. Measured the resistance before hand though so used variable one and found that soldering wires to the two points was far easier for my limited skills.

When i but 210MHz BCLK it shows on boot 203....

edit: Problem was that wrong chip was soldered to wrong place
Anyway I still need the F9X bios, can someone please pm or send it to movieaward@hotmail.com THANKS! Because F8X is still the FSB problem, on EX58-EXTREME!

This is new Giga ex58 called X58A-UD7, max BCLK=225 in any 3D, cooling by single stage(-50 idle). Same cpu and memory might 235 and more on Gigabyte EX58EXTREME, EVGA Classified, Asus P6T6 WS Revolution. Need hardmod or new BIOS(motherboard aren't mine, so i don't remove stock mobo's cooling )?

Forgive for my English because I only learn it

Anyone tried doing the mod by only placing a 1k fixed and leaving the other in place?

Also do the resistor pads (one closes the NB specifically) circled in green go to the 4th resistor of the closer bank? I messed mine up a bit. I think its still ok just need to find a different solder point is all

You have very bad performance there, I got 8.140 on 4950MHz.

    lol ... screen ? ss

You should consider several factors, most blck best time, on the other hand is the pot you use homemade overlapping layers 1 and pass just once.

Excellent result Friend, 235 bclk x 20 in greater bclk better, and your configuration to almost 1885 MHz and 7-6-6-15 help much in the record.

I overclock to 30Cบ in Caracas , and I run out the dry ice, it gave me time to squeeze more memory.

    CARLOS*A1,
This is for the Gigabyte board, there is a separate Classified thread in the intel section of the forums.

    bassplayer,
I stuffed my mod up too, I had similar problems as you did. I sent my board back and got it fixed up for around $90 AUD.

    hey guys,
    just got my UD4P.
Can do 225BCLK without the mod:
    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1035507

Problem is: I also have not the skills to resolder that small thing. Desolder is no problem, but to place it on the other pads is too difficult for me. any tips how to do it best? problem is, the small thing doesn't stays in place. maybe kinda glue it on pcb and then solder

    hi rne

i know it looks scary when you see it and hicookie was laughing at me on MSN when i started @^@#&^@#@(#*&@ swearing a little

but what i did is i pulled out an old board that was dead and practiced a couple of times and found it very easy actually....it's all in the process and how you do it

so what i did was i took the smallest flat screwdriver i had...really small one and i push on the side of the resistor with even force to dislodge it......it should come off pretty easy....now be careful not to lose it. It is super small. What you want to do once you've removed it is use your screw driver and try to position the resistor on the new position as per cookies instructions and with one hand press and hold down the resistor in position with that screwdriver from the top............grab the soldiering iron with the other hand and solder one side...now you can let go of screwdriver and solder the other side ....that it done ...just practice a couple of times on the other board

if you lose it make sure you find a 1K resistor from another board (i lost mine lol)...

Yeah i practiced on an old 9800 Pro.

Think i will mod the board this evening

I pushed from one side with the soldering iron against the smd and then it popped off. After that i took a toothpick to get it in the right direction, pressed down and soldered one side. Exactly what you did mate

weigh up the pro's and cons. My UD5 did 225 without the mod, with the mod it did 234. Worth it ? only you can decide. Personally I didnt think it was
