5100 Nb is sickkkkkkkk, wow very very nice. So is NB speed all dependent on the chip itself ? or chip and board ? , how much of a factor is the board play to hitting that kind of speed, or just nb speed in general. Worse thing i did was get rid of my Gig UD5P.

Hey guys I wanted to add some active cooling to my mobo (I probably dont need it with the 4 x 120mm side zalman fans but you know how we are so, where do you think the mobo could use fans to help OCing?
Pics are very welcome. :-)

shaolin95 - I mounted a 250mm fan on the side. Covers area from cpu cooler to bottom of MB. It is very quiet, moves plenty of air. And an Antec spot fan over the ram.
wez- Thanks, I tried the top (4&5) blue ports for dvd and XP drive first as IDE (they are configurable seperately) with the SSD on blue port 0 as AHCI to get running again. Those horizontal ports are hard to get to in the mid tower case it is in. Had to use chopsticks ha ha. Will try again. Was hoping to be able to leave the XP as IDE and run W7 as AHCI without reinstalling XP.

Hey... I think i corrupted the bios, or fried my PII 955 I was wondering if someone could maybe point me in the right direction here. I was OCing last night and saved some settings and my computer hasn't posted since. I don't think that I killed my CPU, I was around 3.8 Ghz, and I've had it over 4.1 before. Anybody know how I could try to repair the bios for this board, or get a better idea of what's wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried repairing it through a floppy as per http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...47&postcount=8, but that's 2 years old and there might be a better way now?

Greetings everybody!
I own this motherboard as well, but I'm having weird problems with it. I get every 2-3 weeks a weird BSOD in Win7 64bit with physical memory dump. The PC won't automatically reboot and when i reset it it doesn't boot back into win7 64 bit any longer. I'm using a raid 0 made of 2 WD Velociraptors. It seems that the raid is rendered unable to boot, but i cannot seem to comprehend why this happens. It always hangs and will not go past the point where the raid rom appears and the message "update dmi to something... ". I've already tried repairing the install but to no avail. When loading the raid drivers it manages to detect the raid area, but curiously, it is assigned with letter E or F even though it should be actually drive C.
My Bios version is F8c,the latest posted by Gigabyte on their site.
My config is Gigabyte MA790FXT UD 5P with Bios F8c, Phenom II 965@stock with Scythe Zipang 2, 4x2 GB Kingston HyperX CL 8 @ stock (1333), Palit 9800GT Green @ stock, X-fi Titanium, 2 WD Veliciraptors in RAID0 and WD 1.5 TB Green, Asus SATA DVD Burner, floppy drive, CoolerMAster 1000W PSU, Razer Copperhead, Saitek Eclipse II, Win 7 64 bit
The BSOD shows up when gaming NFS shift, Bioshock2, Mass Effect2, but also when running 3d mark Vantage benchmark.
I got this error in vista 64 as well. I must point out that i also update the bios successively to F7 and then F8c. Unfortunately both updates could be only performed in windows, due to the fact that q-flash didn't recognize my usb stick.
I'm starting to grow desperate because it is very annoying to install windows every 15 days, losing my save games etc.(I'm at the 5th reinstall due to BSOD followed by messed up raid boot since November when i got this motherboard).
What is the exact and proper setting for q-flash to detect my usb stick?
Is it because of the bios? Could someone please give me the proper raid drivers for win7 64bit?
Should i go back to bios F6?
In bios it says i have the secondary bios F5. How can i load it as a primary Bios in order to get it to factory settings, would this help?
I've run Memtest 3.2 for about 8 hours and 6 passes with no errors, so i think i could rule out any ram issues.
I've also tested the setup in amd overdrive for about 1 hour by running the stability test; there were no issues detected.
Could someone post the boot option for usb stick, so that it can be seen by q-flash and i mange to update via q-flash and not windows. Please help me, because I'm getting trouble every 2 weeks with my setup. My Win7 64 bit is trial version, it doesn't even get near the trail expiration date.
Thank you in advance for your kind support.

Well it seems Gigabyte is not going to give this board full support. What a shame the pace it's taking them to just release a minor update to BIOS.

sprach, I recently had a problem with random reboots, slow loading of tray items, occasional crash etc gradually getting worse till screen corruption.. Turned out to be weight of Vcard in top slot effecting something in slot or MB. Went away if I laid computer on it's side motherboard side down. Won't hurt to try. Make sure optical drives are empty first.

@ PaganII - I currently own a 9800gt green edition which is not that heavy like my former 4870x2, so I think we could rule out weight stress on the motherboard as a source of BSOD, BSOD happened with both cards inserted.
@ wez - Velociraptors are healthy; they never showed any signs of weakness/hiccups, there are no slow downs. I've used them without any issues with an Asus M3A32MVP Deluxe mobo.
Coming to your 2nd question, I think the airflow over SB and NB is decent enough, having regard to the fact that my case is outfitted with 7 vents, i.e. 1 front intake, 1 side intake, 2 bottom intakes, 1 rear exhaust, 2 top exhausts.
I have tried many options regarding small OC, like minor voltage bump for CPU-NB, and HT/SB, but it seems I haven't found the proper settings, I guess...
Funny thing is that I'm currently running my system build with all settings at stock speeds and I haven't been having any BSOD since my last re-install as of 2 months. That means I left everything on AUTO, but only those settings concerning OC and/or voltage settings. It seems my 4 sticks of Kingston HyperX won't run at their advertised speed and latency of 1600 @ CL8 which is in fact a specific Intel setting. Stock setting with these memory sticks are reported by BIOS as 1333 CL9, so that's how I'm running the timings right now. I guess performance boost isn't that much of improvement so I'd rather keep the system stable than risking other BSOD's.
To conclude it's like this, no OC equals stability, even the slightest OC (for instance running the XMP profile of 1600 CL8, it must have something to do with the Phenom II CPU being able to officially support only 1333 by its memory controller - what exceeds this setting being treated automatically as OC) means BSOD, even if it happens every 2-3 weeks (but that still doesn't make me feel secure regarding my system's stability).
Thank you again for your input and I’m looking forward for any other suggestions.
Wez, would you be so kind and post the detailed BIOS settings used/recommended by you? Thanks in advance.

Hi sprach, Turns out it was not the Gigabyte board problem! When my new power supply arrived I ran crossfire in the Asus rig and same thing happened even though the MB was horizontal on the table. My problem is 1 of the HIS 4870s. Mixed them up troubleshooting and tested the same card twice ha ha. If I push on it at just the right spot then everything is normal. Better luck to you.
did you did a proper format to the 2 raptors ?
if no that could be the problem , dont do quick format when you install windows if its in raid format the raid partion fully , also if your still having the problem at the moment go to run comand and type msconfig select booting and use safe mode whith minimal option before you restart go to your win drive and select properites and use both options on the check disk then restart it should resolve your problem
