    A few questions for EVGA-owners.
What's the major difference between EVGA 3xSLI CLASSIFIED (141-BL-E760-A1) and the X58 Classified 4-Way SLI (170-BL-E762-A1)? (Besides the number of PCIe).
Is there any major difference on Vreg, cooling, etc. that would affect the OCing abilities, and does both have the same max-BCLK?

Is there any announced plans (or rumour) for a new MB replacing any of these?

If other Classified users can get better efficiency out of their board at 4GHz, please post.

4x SLI board has two NF200 chips that make the NB/SB temps go up by a bit since a single heatsink assembly is being used to call all these chips.
Other than that it's pretty much the same board.

THANK YOU! It looks like I need to add the copywaza step to my process. I will give it a shot this weekend. What initial settings do you reccomend?

    Thanks.
I have been using Maxmem = 680 for the above runs. I will try 700.
I downloaded SPTweaker this morning after Cheapseats pointed out the copywaza benefits. Currently, I am working through the thread at OCX of how to best use it. I will check out i4memory as well.

best thing to do is just experiment, one setting might work great for one person, and suck balls for the next

Set the timings per the specs (I believe it is 7-8-7-20) and make sure you raise the vDIMM voltage to 1.65 (be careful, the Classifieds like to overvolt the vDIMM. I set mine to 1.61 in the BIOS, and it reads 1.65 in ELEET).

To answer my own question, one of the most important rule for i7 which i overlooked is to keep the Uncore x2 above ram frequency and QPI frequency higher than the Uncore.

At least 2x, can also be higher, 2x+1, 2x+2...

be careful when setting XMP profiles, it messes with vtt voltage .
your vvt is 1.62 and thats way above the limits !!
use standard and manually set you ram to Corsair spec's frequency/timing/voltage .

Many reports of memory bugs are surfacing with BIOS 44. Some people are rolling back to 61J. See this thread http://www.evga.com/FORUMS/tm.aspx?&m=161441&mpage=1

Read the whole thing.....painfull as it may be.

I have elected to stay with 61J until these issues are resolved.

I don't think any of that is nessessary. I have no problem w/ getting high bclk clocks w/ stock TIM and no fan.

So unless you are planning to go 4 way SLI, go with the E760, as it has a smaller form factor, is less expensive, and the x8 lanes really won't make a difference in a 3 way SLI config.

You only get 32 lanes with an e760, first slot gets priority, then the 3rd, the 2nd and 4th are default 8 (This is what I got from EVGA when I was contemplating this board, which i did end up buying, and confirmed with my 3 gtx275s (not very extreme :/))
This is actually a topic of recent concern for me, as I'm waiting to pick up a pair of 5870 2GB cards....

I've read similar responses to these two at a number of places. Some say that you get true x16/x16 so long as you only use slots #1 and #4 (2 and 5 in the manual). Others are saying it's going to be x16/x8.

Short of emailing EVGA C.S., can anyone here clarify which is true?

    EDIT:

I think I found it after a little more searching. Looks like this is the real answer?

Yes, that's correct. You can run full x16 SLI/xFire on the E760 as long as you use PCIe slots 1 and 3.

The 762 has Marvell NICs instead of the crappy Realtek! That's great because at 110MHz PCI-E the Realjunk NICs would completely disappear from the board! The Asus P6T7 is the same way although a hard power cycle would usually bring them back.

It is absolutely essential to have a fan on the chipset cooler. I disconnected mine and noticed the block was quite toasty. Went into the BIOS and saw the NB temp was 109 degrees centigrade! I have a better fan (60mm) on mine and it makes a little noise (about as loud as the fan on my RAID card) but temps are now in the 60s. Amazing difference.

Indeed an active NB cooling is needed for E762. I also removed the stock fan and put one 80mm running at 7V which is quiet and the temps are arround 58-60 degrees idle and 70-75 after 2 hours Crysis with 2x285 in SLI, with the stock fan it was 70 idle..
BTW never had problems with Lan cards on my E760, even when trying 115-120MHz PCIe .
