Something that has been puzzling me. After several re-reads, I wanted to ask why you didn't use the Rotozip to do you rectangular cutouts. Obviously, they came out great with the big router- is this type of cut beyond the RZ's capabilities? Thanks for your help.

I've seen brilliant photos taken with point-and-shoots and even camera phones.

Hi Wez! Good eye, me hearty. Aye. It is indeed nasty. It much worse looking in pics than in RL, but there definitely is a wedgie situation going on there.

Tis a shame too. Took me 3 days to rattle can that d-plug black and all.

I've pulled the cards out and have ordered a shorter BP Black Matte d-plug in hopes to relieve said wedgie:

I know about starting a build only once you're ready. I've saved some popcorn when it's time for the Graeme show.

Thanks Alexandr0s I'm hardly the intimidating type; and neither is me bling. When Lilly is hungry on the other hand...lolz

    So yes, shazza...

Me easy answer: Because I'm not as gifted as Charles.

The longer answer: A straight cut is completely within the capabilities of the RZ, with the right bit, it can even route fancy cutouts, dovetails, slots, etc.
I found that there are things the router can't do that that the RZ can. (Precise engraving for one. I heard its like maneuvering a jet airplane around a go-kart track).

Some may find cutting with the RZ easier to use since you can plunge into the work piece making the start of a cut and continuing your cut from there. The RZ can cut smaller pieces much easier since the footprint of the RZ is generally smaller than base of most routers.

Yes. How nice for you. But that doesn't answer my question, big mouth:

    • Since he already has a router and purchasing a rotozip wasn't worth the cost of your marriage (I know you jest), I thought I'd share my adventures in making a straight cut using one.
    • I was already working on routing acrylic, so it was just a matter of swapping out the bit for the straight cut using Zsa Zsa (the metal straight cutting bit).
    • I lost my metal cutting XBit for the Rotozip. It was here somewhere. And like Mum says, "What? It didn't just grows legs and WALK out of here." referring to a pen she lost.

So my apologies Shazza. Didn't mean to cause any confusion. Using the router wasn't really purely out of personal preference but a little out of personal laziness.
It was also to show you what you can do given the tool you - oops sorry - hubby owns.

One more hole to go. I may look in my garage in one of those boxes I have yet to unpack and see if I can find the RZ cutting bit.

For now TIVO over a cold one wins.

    Updates soon!

re: SLI fittings-I'm hoping to give these a try. I thought you might like em as you can see your liquid go thru (would be nice w/ the blue I saw in the post round new year's "...borrowed, something blue")

Glad we were able to take care of that before it was a problem, or the rig was more-complete.

I'm having fun trying to serial my video cards right now (T_T)

Nice find, John! I'll be going the d-plug route for the cards but that link gives me an idea on a fourth res situation.

Thanks for pointing out my wedgie in public. lolz.
    I've managed to successfully unwedgiefy!

I'm liking your 3 card configuraration with the anti kink coils

Thanks Huff, appreciate the feedback! lolz @ gratuitous anti-flaccid pill reference. I went the less medical route and managed to find a d-plug with a more suitable length.

    *******************************************
A short update showing a little unwedgiefying procedure.

I purchased a shorter d-plug to replace the one currently being used on the cards:

    Deployed:

    Looks like we're good!

Thanks for stopping by. More progress pics shortly!

    Yay! No wedgies!

I was mostly concerned that you were wrecking those PCI-e slots and the threads on the acrylic tops... 'twould have been a sad day for WC'ing...

And thanks. The tubes are flattening out despite my best shaping efforts (T_T)

    I EVEN USED ZIP TIES!

Can't wait for the rest of this monstrous monstrosity of a mountain mod!

Cheers me hearties...thanks for all the words of support and continued interest.

I've actually been all over the map with the build as of late ... routing acrylic to sit flush with aluminum holes, making a hatchway to gain access to the pedestal, getting a little high breathing in Goof Off because I forgot to put on me respirator, and working on an idea for an Instrument Panel situation.

The good news is progess is being made. I am taking pics as I go along and I shall post them soon!

I'm taking my family out on a nice Sunday outting and heading over to MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) here in L.A., with sketchpad in tow, to further develop an idea I have in mounting/creating a drive bay/holder/cage situation.

    Thanks for the visit!
I'll have tea and biccys prepared next time.

P.S. I really like this smiley:

    Nice progress Rick.

Looking forward to hearing of your visit to MOCA and of what inspiration you gathered from there.

I'm glad your GPU is now even-keeled my friend.

Keep up the great work Rick - Oh... and just say "NO" to Goof-Off. Sure the high is great but that stuff will fry your noodles!
