    JohnZS,

Both my keyboard and mouse are wireless and the lights they have function independently of the system and its power state. i do recall though that when the system would freeze that i could still move my mouse cursor around on the screen for a while, just couldnt do anything with it, and nothing else (like the windows button or ctrl-alt-del) did anything.

and i think that i went through a few (2-3 or 4) cycles of fully turing off the system after it froze before the SMART events came up.

Ran chkdsk on the array yesterday and repopulated the drive with data without issue. even defragmented it with O&O by filename and no errors.

Ahh Sean your freezing sounds different to my freezing. For me the lights would go out and then strange sounds emit from the speakers... even if no music or sound was playing?! It would be an instant freeze where no control could be had on either the mouse or keyboard.
I've just been playing Stalker Call of Pripyat for nearly 2 hours and had no issues at all?! Before that 3 loops of Vantage and 3 hours of memtest x86. Strange eh?

I cannot recall the Freezes coming straight away after installing the new Rapid Storage Software, but they did manifest themselves less than a week later. This might sound patronising, but have you checked to see what else you installed at around the same time?

Good Luck and fingers crossed you are able to track down the issue soon. You certainly seem to be one of the most, if not the most technically minded people on this forum so my guess is you have been unlucky enough to find a bug in the Rapid Storage Software.

ATI Crossfire config demo video up on Intel. What, no nVidia SLI?
By the way, does anyone know if nVidia has dropped the SLI block in the drivers for boards that are not "certified"?

SLI is not supported on the Intel Platform unless you have an X58 or nforce motherboard.
By the way Manel please, if you have time would you do mak an Everest screen shot of your chipset PCI-E Controller section. I have found that ASUS boards are reporting the card is inserted into the wrong slot/port.?!? and was wondering if it was the same your side of the fence on an Intel X38

John, I know that, but that is nVidia bull as you know. They have inserted code in their drivers as of maybe mid last year (can't remember correctly but maybe from 16x.xx on) to detect the board chipset and disable SLI if it wasn't any of the supported chipsets - nVidia being themselves as usual. You could unlock such feature if you paid the $5 (guess this was it) royalty with a BIOS update. This is valid for X58, guess would go for X38/48 or any other chipset for that matter.
I don't have Everest installed, still I'll check if there's an eveluation version or something so that I can make the shot for you.

yeah, when mine would freeze the first time i could still move the mouse, but do nothing else, then when it would free up there would be a single beep through the speakers and i could move the mouse and do a few things and then 5-10 seconds later it would freeze again, but i wouldnt be able to move the mouse.

no, nothing else was installed, and by the logs it took about 8 hours following installation for the first freeze to occur. And i know that i was streaming music from the array during that time, so should have had anything to do with the drives powering down. but also the first or second times didnt result in the SMART event, or at least it wasnt logged.

i feel that either rapid storage and power options are to blame or that just maybe the drives are about to go. Only time will tell.

still issue free since disabling power off hard drives, though.

Video works fine for me Manel
However there is an amusing bug, the Video title for the first section says "How to Configure nVidia SLI"

The narrator says "This video will show you how to setup ATi Crossfire using 2 ATi Technologies Radeon HD 4890 Graphics Cards"

Yet the title says How to Configure nVidia SLi

My freezes have appeared to have gone away now Sean too. Hmmm I wonder if the power settings resolved the issue for me too?!?

I'm guessing, since it's a Flash video, that maybe my Flash player is not up to date. I'll check. I does not provide any error message or anything, it just won't play.
So, I had something going when I mentioned SLI, right?! Just kidding.

    Hey John, guys

Sorry for taking so long answering you John, been away most of the time with presentations of our new PLC these couple of weeks.
Anyway, finally installed Everest Ultimate (Trial) and here are the shots.
It seems in our board the first PCIE slot is also slot #2, go figure. Still @2.0 x16 with the newest driver set.
Finally nVidia solved the PhysX Control Panel issue with the newest 196.75 drivers. Fermi GF480/470 don't seem so hot now, let's wait till March 26th to find out.

    Hello, Manel:

Since you mentioned nVidia drivers version 196.75, I wanted to forward your attention to this blog posting that I just found, regarding these specific drivers:

    http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=7551&tag=nl.e539

It does appear that nVidia has removed version 196.75, at least as of this posting and I wanted to alert everyone to the possibility of a potential disastrous cooling problem with their GPUs.

If this is affecting nVidia users, here's hoping it gets resolved soon. Good luck, everyone!

    Hey voltron
I caught this earlier today, not that specific site, but same info. Haven't noticed anything unusual yet but haven't gamed much and just installed it too. Still, guess it's time to go back. nVidia is really shooting their own foot as of latelly. Last 2 releases with problems?! Well, makes me wonder about the WHQL process. How the hell did this escape MS and nVidia attention in the first place?

Intel Integrator Assistant for X48 only up on Intel. Why not X38 as well?!

Just realised recently that the supposed final 769 version of IDCC still shows beta in the splash screen! WTF?! Intel sleeping in their watch or what? Is it so hard to release a final stable piece of software? And don't come with it takes time to test it and get it working ok since this has been in development over a year now, or near that, if I recall correctly. And I congratulated Intel when I saw this version out with no beta and after all...
Oh well. Intel will be Intel.
What about audio drivers? They seem to have forgotten us, ever since they changed audio codec.

IIA readme file says that 3-Series boards and higher are supported, so why not X38?
Also, you can check out SLI config in the X58 download page, since our board doesn't support SLI. Just for kicks.
Can't believe Intel, they're not organised. I know it's not easy with all the software and boards but come on.

BIOS 5020 for DX58SO. XTU 2.0 support enhancements. John, I guess the issue with PCIe power was there too since mid last year they enabled 300W for PCIe slots.

Thank you very much for the updates Manel
I have forwarded this information onto ASUS. Once again you rock the socks off
Just an FYI stay away from forceware 195.75 drivers, apparently if your PC goes into standby your fan does not re-engage, thus causing the graphics card to overheat.
A GTX 295 I had for testing was running those drivers until I received an e-mail from nVidia informing me to roll back as users were reporting overheating issues! Scary huh?
    Thank you once again.

John, no sweat, sorry couldn't do it sooner, been overloaded with work.
Yes, I have installed those pesky 196.75. Still, so far all is ok, haven't used the rig much though. I'll uninstall however, just to e sure. Been monitoring temps with GPUZ and all seems normal. Fan is spinning at regular speed.
I never install any drivers (or any software for that matter) as soon as it's out but this time I wanted to check these new drivers out - bad idea!!
Let us know how things go with Asus, hope they feel the need to do something.

Well, reverted back to 196.21 just in case. Funny, MS forgot to clear the driver from Windows update, sice now I get a new driver update notice. Have they been somehow absent?
Guess it's time to wait for a new release, it will take nVidia time I believe.
Fermi will be presented to the world on the 26th so they should be polishing the drivers (guess 2xx.xx version) for it, not that impressed with the hardware though. 3b transistors is a lot of heat (200W+) and those odd number of mem channels that imply unusual mem bus width and mem amount, makes me want to pass.

By the way, is it just me or does everyone see a (big) difference between driver reported GPU temp and actual sensor reading in GPUZ? I get as much as 8º difference. PCB temp is ok, actually sensor reads 0.5º higher than what the driver reports. Didn't even know the sensor was a ADT7473.
Also new at MS is an important update with a browser choice option in IE for us guys in Europe, guess it has to do with that law suit.

Was wondering about that. Nice to know that they are offering it as an "update" for current users and not just an option during OS installation. wonder if apple is being subjected to the same thing...dont remember an option for browser with them, just safari.
