I tried them both. The UD3P is 8X-8X, and the L/R are single PCI Express. I am going for full bandwidth. Should I refuse the package at the door, or give it a try? I really want to get both working at the same time. I want the power of ATI with the physx of nvidia. If only someone ported Physx to opencl or stream.
For now, I have to deal with what I have. I know how high P45 boards clock. I need the x48 due to the die shrink and higher overclocking potential of the x38, and I need the Ich9/10R to maintain my raids. It was not expensive by any means... only $129. Compared to the other parts, I would consider this either an overclocking possibility, or a loss until my other board returns from RMA.
You think I can get 3.8 out of it? Saying I wasted my money is only slightly helpful. Something like "Here, try this", or "Yes, the floppy connectors are required, would have been much more influential.
Any suggestions on overclocking the x48? I know the CPU can do it, but can the chipset?
I'll find out Thursday.
As I said, I can always refuse the package at the door and return to sender for a full refund.
Maybe I can send it back and get an i7 setup and just do it that way, but it's overkill and expensive to re-do the entire rig, and I want to hold onto my quad core for as long as possible. I like the cache, and the i7 still needs to be ironed out. Yorkfield is a proven chip. I had debated backing up all my data and going to a 780i, but I think I would be limited in my overclocking as well. With the p45, I have hit 4.25GHz.
The desire is to run the HD5970 and a 9800gt in tandem to get the power of ATI with Physx.
Fight the power, and

what ever nvidia says about limiting nvidia drivers during use of an ATI card. I have the fix, and I shall use it! You should see the power of this thing. I love it. I know Fermi is coming out, but it's going to be a long time before it's widely available, and I'm the only one on my block, and one of the very few to be privileged to own a 5970. I also have the soft bios hack to allow SLI on the X48/X38/P45/P48. Fight the power!
Where's the middle finger smiley? ..|._
