I think this is a better strategy than naming the gf100 as the gtx 380. People won't be confused when they think they are getting fermi technology in the lower end gt 330 or something. When NV started naming chips as a 3xx part, they ruined the name for fermi based parts.
Hopefully with the new 4xx series, Nv can stop with the renaming and start fresh.
I think it would be ok if they introduced 40nm higher clocked g200b as their midrange for the time being for the $250 and under along with directx 10.1 support at the minimum. E.g Gtx 360 which would be a 40nm, 256bit ddr5, directx 10.1 with slightly better performance than a gtx 285 as a result of higher clocks.
