Talking Massman ejected and disgraced at MSI Elite OC Summit

January 19th 2010 @ 9:30 PM Massman was ejected from the MSI Elite OC summit by Fiona for trying to impose HWbot rules at the OC summit, Fiona and the whole crew did not take kindly to his gestapo like tactics.

    SANY0028.JPG

Fiona taking the initiative to remove Massman from the bus, good thing the bus was not moving yet.

    SANY0031.JPG

Massman tried to jump on the front bumper and missed, good riddance.

    SANY0018.JPG

After the MSI Elite OC summit Gautam thought that Cwiss needed a bath, smelling all funky. The LN2 bath was needed to clear the foul air.

    SANY0040.JPG

Once Massman's fascist methods were removed we got down to business

Thanks MSI for the Taiwan trip, hope everyone had a good time at the Elite OC Summit. MSI allowed us to get out and see the city and visit friends.

Thanks NickShih for the LN2 and the kick ass PSU! We used Nicks mobo the final morning to feed our oc addiction. No, this was not Nicks killer CPU.

Are you really wondering or just pointing it out? I heard a bit about how (bad) the "free overclocking session" with MSI boards was, how they sucked in terms of coldbugging and so I am not wondering at all they needed to take a real motherboard in the end to satisfy their desires

But, is it the boards fault, or the BIOS programmers?? Gigabyte nailed the problem with BIOS, as far as I know

I think MSI should speed up themselves, and hire Oskar Wu, FAST.... If the overclocker is right, that DFI makes motherboards no more, he will be availible?? And MSI BIOS sucks in generel... Ram timings anyone?

The free overclocking went well for some ...
    - wprime at 6G easy
    - 1300MHz+ core 5870 easy

Problem is combination of the two: bios and hardware. To be honest, the Trinergy has the feel of being a solid mainboard, but there are three things they need to fix:

    - vcore (1.7V max) ~ bios (MSI specific)
    - 2:8 divider ~ bios (All brand, except gigabyte)
    - Coldbug/boot ~ (All brand, except evga)

I'm not trying to come across as a fanboy, but that's how things are. If these three issues are fixed, you'll see the board fly at very high freqs. I mean ... it's really unfair, and incorrect, to generalize all products based on what was a problem in the past. Unbiased opinions (yeahyeah, I know ... ironic probably) are needed to evaluate a board.

I'll comment later, still in Taipei atm.

    Well.......

    1) it was not a competitions, but a kind of workshop organized by MSI to get feedback ( a lot of feedback.....a full day of feeback...) about how to develope a kind of product, so please, let's appreciate that.

    2) it is not thrue that the oc session was bad . Who tested the mobo before ( trinergy i.e.) saw a big improvement in the bios developement.
Yes, all of us had the cold boot bug issue, especially who were testing 670 or 660 chip, but ( from what I know) this bug is CPU realted, and is present in all p55 motherboard, unless you know how to mod the mobo.

    3) MSI P55 trinergy was pretty stable to bench, i got 245 bclock with a 670 retail and SF3D ( if i remeber well ) got 255 ...benchable whith not so much drama.
Again, we were testing the motherboard capability, not trying to get WR benchmarking

    4) IMHO, the LUCID tech talk part, was quite interesting, nobody knows about the future performance or future developement of the project, but the idea is amazing, and if it will performs well, wil be great.

    5) Only complain ( IMHO) is about " time allocation". I have wished less time spent in restaurant for dinner, less time spent in the IT mall for shopping, even....less "free time", but much more time to bench.
Seven hour for pretest, insulate, cool down and bench was nothing .... that's what i normally do in my own place on friday or saturday night.
From an occasion like that, i was expected to bench 18...even 24 or 36 hour continuisly.
We don't need to have a special hotel to sleep o special food to eat....neither a nice hotel to make the benching session. A full day benching into the MSI HQ would have been amazing

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

I dont think any of the "A-series" from Gigabyte suffers from coldbug/boot, I might be wrong.

    - Just deleted alot of text, narrowed down; MSI has been making strong products since mid 2008, before, it was complete waste compared to ABIT & ASUS
What is needed now is better BIOS development, same goes or eVga - Strong products, weak BIOS programming (eVga wouldnt make thousands of almost identical classified versions if they had a decent BIOS developer...)

And there was me thinking I might get an explanation as to why my top wprime32 score was edited. No cause for concern though as it's now sitting pretty at 3rd place again - sorry, a bit off topic there..

Some of these events are something I'd consider going to if they were a bit closer to home - would be sweet to be able to borrow some chilling kit to push my quad further.
