Of course Battlefield didn't come from the consoles, Bad Company was explicitly released on the consoles because players asked for it and it was also an element of EA/DICE's new business model: casual PC (Heroes), hardcore PC (Battlefield 3), console (Bad Company). I never misunderstood your OP! Maybe I should have stated I was on the same page with you? lol. Obviously we both like the games. And I can't wait for Frostbite DX11...

Jesus, in the wake of MW2 DICE practically has a gimme and then they get all sloppy. Never underestimate their capacity foring things up.
there must be some fad going around to ruin games
i dont know which is worse, charging for managed servers or no dedicated at all

BFBC1 was a console only game, I'm happy that DICE even chose to release BC2 on PC.
While the decision not to release the dedicated server files publicly may affect a select few people, it's not the end of the world. Clans can still have matches with each other. Don't know about America, but here in Australia one of the ISPs used to organise clan matches and the likes when BF2 was in it's glory days.
As for 'no prone', well that stemmed from BC1 where DICE claimed they tested prone and said it was too unfair due to the fact that TVs had low resolutions and hence it was difficult to spot someone far away who was proned. Guess it was in their best interest to keep it the same throughout BC2.
As it goes... if you guys don't like how this game is looking, don't buy it. There's still BF3 you can wait out for. Having squad gameplay and games under 100ms is good enough for me.
Edit: About the sound issue: http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/1...4-post155.html
2. Let's tackle some quality settings! It's fairly simple really, we do all audio processing in 32-bit floating point at 48kHz which is then always quantized down to 16-bit (due to issues with certain sound cards in 32-bit) on PC. On consoles it's always 48kHz/32-bit floating point. We do not support sample rates above 48kHz due to similar issues with the aforementioned sound cards. Also, the revision of the audio engine that BC1/BC2 uses does not fully utilize 7.1 surround sound, but we'll get to that in the future. So, short answer: 5.1/48kHz/16-bit will get you the best experience.

It really sad to see this happening to PC gaming, its so pathetic when FPS games are made for consoles first, PC second.Honestly if they put the time and make a good FPS for PC only, it would be a HUGE hit.
still play bf2 on dedicated server.
5 years and going.
if Bc2 is good enough, sound and other worries wont matter if the gameplay is sound and good.
The longetivity of the game is based upon how well the developers have done it and as far, bf2 is the best game out there.
DICE used the MMOG idea of support classes, around a 6 squad team with some really nice tactics and that is a great idea and concept which allowed the best game to be out out as far.
Technical issues as sound, its kinda hard to code for every option out there, especially PC, I understand DICE and other developers if they do consol only, as the cost to make a game is high.
However, looking forward to play BC2, pre order is in and then the waiting for BF3 might be shorter.
16bit vs 32bit wont be an issue as you got to be really good to hear any difference.
many still thinks mp3 128bit sounds the best even when listening to flac songs.

Come on guys!!!!
I only have 3 points to make.
1) Even 16-bit sound on a FrostBite 3.0 Engine is probably the best sound you will get in any game.
2) Its DICE, the studio that is wholly owned by EA. You do remember EA right? The big evil goblin of the gaming industry that always misses every opportunity to do good. So don't be surprised that after the number of so called "PC players" went out and bought MW2 that EA was going to actually stand up for the PC community? The PC community let themselves down, we got none else to blame.
3) I TOLD YOU NOT TO DOLPHIN DIVE!!! See what happens! You use prone as a cheat and them the game developer removes that option from the game. The world works by asking you nicely not to do it, if you don't listen they let loose the ban hammer.
In other words BC2 is still going to be a great game and i for one will be buying it. After i finish playing Mass Effect 2 of course.

How can you use prone as a cheat?
No, OpenAL 5.1/96kHz/24-bit with hardware acceleration would get me the best experience (since they said the engine doesn't support 7.1).So, short answer: 5.1/48kHz/16-bit will get you the best experience.
If you don't own a card that supports that then the engine can simply rollback to 48kHz/16-bit software... Seriously, most games support acceleration through DirectSound (Sadly not available on Vista/7, huge let down that).
Good, so you understand why it's not ok to consolize the game omitting features being requested or expected for a PC game. It also good to read that you understand that the roots of the game came from Battlefield and not Bad Company. You are also aware that the frostbite engine will support DX11, a PC exclusive API. Therefore, it only make sense to make other necessary adjustments that distinguish BC2 from the console. Glad we agree![]()

Why remove from a game something you can do on RL?
Are we there yet?
of course it is not the only way to fix it. you could sit down with a council of designers and think up something within about 15 minutes. like, you are unable to fire within 3 seconds of going prone, which takes 4 seconds to do... you take +15% damage in the prone... returning to standing up takes 6 seconds. this would make prone something only useful to someone actually sniping, totally ineffective for combat.
BAM! i could be a game balancer for EA, making 75k a year.

Doesn't BF2142 get around it already by lowering accuracy in prone for a few seconds?
Can someone explain me what is happening in the PC gaming market??Do they wanna kill us??
Tell me IWNet and DICE, come here...I'm gonna start building a nuke on my own for you
We'll still be able (probably) to jump off a 2 level building and open a parachute, just like in a R.L. - where every soldier class (medics and snipers
especially) has a parachute.
DICE has stated this (about the servers) already - when the MW2 was coming
out,it's just people didn't read the fine print and assumed otherwise.
EA/DICE is milking their customers, that's just business as usual for them.
BTW mods like PR have dealt with dolphin diving, bunny jumping, grenade
spamming,base raping,vehicle stealing/whoring,tk/forcing etc,etc.. a LONG time ago.
