1. rex will be limited with 2x2 ram (is better 4x1 ?) REX likes Micron 1GB GTR sticks, however I have used 2 x 2GB Corsair Dominator GT's with no problems, but with a quad getting DDR3-1600+ stable will be difficult. It wont be a very 'flexible' setup, as I suggested, 400 x 10 & DDR3-1600 MHz is probably your best bet - look back a page though Rurik got his quad stable at 490 FSB using 2 x 2GB so it can be done
2. Gigabyte DDR3 P45 boards aren't the best performers (best mobo for Quad QX9650 Extreme ? X48 or P45 ?) Best board for quad FSB overclocking is Gigabyte P45 UD3P/UD3R (DDR2 version with some exceptions - see user by the name of Jor3lBR in UD3P thread he has great results with DDR3 version) but since you have an older EE, you're limited by max clock and its unlocked so you could use an X48 and dont really need to OC the FSB so high.
3. running DDR3-2000 MHz on a Rampage Extreme with a quad is just not going to happen.( so is better DDR3-1600 MHz with 6 CAS then 2000Mhz with 8 CAS; just for my quad) DDR3-1600 @ 6-7-6-18 has very good performance for 24/7 use, most people with i7's don't even run DDR3-2000 MHz
my cpu is unlocked and i use air cooling and 24/7.
pls help.
