When I had 3x285 in tri sli there was no micro or macro stuttering - I can tell you that for sure. It's just that some games work better on a single card... I cannot tell anything about ati though for now - I simply haven't tried crossfire yet. But they say it scales marvelousely with no stuttering. this microstutter myth has been busted a numerous times already.
