Thanks for the Tech Points. I never look at them if you wouldn't have told me I would never have known it.

    I doubt it!
I just open up a new thread about a new bios version.
Maybe I just canīt reply in the thread "bios 0902".

You can always try to run at 7 X 600MHz when they release the new BIOS.

600fsb would require meni volts on mch - which i would like to avoid.

The overclock profile is going to give us the possibility to run with higher FSB. How high is something that I don't know. If all goes well we should see Quads run with FSB 500MHz stable with reasonable voltage on the NB.

How high you are going to get the FSB with a Dual is also going to depend on what voltage it's going to take on the NB.

To run 600fsb 1:1 I needed 1.61v on mch what is pretty high in my opinion.

The overclock profile is going to be more relaxed so we can aim for the highest FSB so we shouldn't need that much voltage anymore for high FSB.

I expect the voltage to be at 1.55V for FSB 500MHz with a Quad and that's a lot better than 1.70V that I needed with Ai Clock Twister Lighter to be able to run Prime95 or LinX.

A lot depends on what ASUS is going to give us. It's pure speculation of what I've found with testing BIOS 0902.

1.61V is pretty low voltage for x38/x48. 1.65V is optimal for air with active cooling.

The built in win 7 AHCi drivers simply mean you don't have to install any drivers during the windows install (i.e the equivelent of F6 driver install with win XP). Once windows is on it is better to use the intel matrix driver for ahci rather then the windows one.
Windows 7 will most likely detect all your hardware with the built in drivers. Installing the ones i have mentioned will give you the best performance/stability. And yeah the intel drivers are for pretty much all the intel chipsets regardless of manufactuer they aren;t tied to a specific board.
Thanks leo. I appreciate the info.

Will that matrix driver work under XP also?

It should give us the overclock sensation that a P45 can give you and maybe better because our NB can take a lot more voltage.

The reason that they probably don't allow everyone to post in the thread is to keep it on topic and don't have to search for information that is useful for them.

Guys I've received a mail from ASUS RD Team to confirm the issues with the BIOS.

They also have problems trying to get the board running stable with a FSB > 450MHz. They are going to try to fix it.

A Happy New Year and it looks like it's going to be great year for us ASUS Rampage Formula users.

edit: from reading the reply in the asus forum it seems that they'll add tREF and the other features we asked for if it is possible so happy new year everyone

I think that after seeing the post with the picture of a DFI Lanparty DK P45 T2RS Plus with a Q9650@4.5GHz, ASUS knew something has to be done.

You've got a DFI Lanparty DK P45 T2RS Plus stable at FSB 500MHz with 1.35V and you've got an ASUS Rampage Formula X48 "trying" to be stable at FSB 500MHz with 1.75V.

Nothing new. I thought that ASUS would have given us something already to try out and see if things are better but nothing.

That could mean that it's difficult to add or fix things or that they didn't take or haven't got the time to do it.

I hope that it won't take to long or I can wait an other year to try to get it stable at 4.5GHz because I won't risk damaging my hardware with to high room temperature.

Let's hope for a release date within this month. Winter is perfect time for bench sessions and torture testing.

I'm seriously debating getting a refurbished ep45-ud3p that i can get for 130 AUD but i'm not sure if i'd get much if any improvement, sure i'd probably able to go to 3.6ghz with the increased GTL tuning but i wouldn't be able to get much more.

For those with seriously untapped potential like a q9650 i'm suprised you guys have stuck around this long

Reading all these threads about skew and gtl i want to advise some not to play with them if they want only to find a 24/7 setting.

Put 0.63x and 0.67x and skew to auto.
Then the voltages should all be set manually to lowest values
(nb,sb,pll, fsbt etc) and start raising only vcore, vmem and vnb when it is needed.
I managed 32m/3d Marks at 4500@Air with my current setup by only raising vcore, vmem and vnb.
