Thread: Asus P6T Deluxe Discussion Thread

I am currently running an i7 950 on my P6T Deluxe V2 and was wondering a few things:

Default QPI is set to 4.8T but I can change it to 6.4T. Is it ok to do this? Will I see any performance gain?

I have 12GB of Corsair DDR3 C8 ram which I am currently running at 1.5v @ DDR3-1333 speeds. Am I doing myself a disservice by running it at that level? Should I invoke XMP? I am a little worried at how the XMP profile sets the voltage for the RAM and QPI/DRAM core voltage (1.65v and 1.35v repectively). I know those are still 'safe' but I would like to know what settings I can use, voltage-wise for my ram and QPI/Dram voltage that would still allow me to run at DDR3-1600 (the rated speed of the ram).

    Thanks

Im not OCing to the limit. I like to keep everything a bit lower but still fast. Im running 4ghz with 1.2815vcore and my Dram ( still tweeking ) @ 15xxmhz 7-7-7-21 1T with 1.54v.

You can try to reach 1600mhz and CAS 8, but youll need to push ~1.64v since its your mem spec.

You can also try to tweek it for 1333 and lower CAS and volts. This will result in similar performance and lower CPU temp.

EDIT : I just spoke to my GF. Its still running after 5hrs of LinX with above spec. 64-62-62-59°c.

Thanks for the advice. What if I loosen the timings a bit @1600 (9-9-9-24)? What about the QPI/Dram voltage question? And what about switching the QPI from 4.8 to 6.4?

    Thanks

About the QPI : try for stability.

From 1333 cas8 and 1600 cas9 i dont think youll notice anything. Only a memory benchmark could show you wich one is the best. As i told. I prefer to run a lower memory speed with thigh timing and low V. 1.65 is the Intel max spec. Running at 1.65 Vdram mean your at the "limit" all the time. I prefer running ~1.55 Vdram and tweek with this volts. This also mean less CPU temp.

Try for stability? Well I know that is good advice all around but it doesn't answer my question regarding running it at 4.8T vs 6.4T.

Frustrated - Need extra brains to help troubleshoot OC problem...

    Problem:
I think I have a memory/mainboard problem, that I can't seem to isolate. Before I post my BIOS settings, want to see if this points to anything obvious that I'm missing out on...

    - System is super stable at stock (2.66Ghz, DDR3-1600). Temps seem a bit high (37C-43C), but I've abandoned my watercooling for aircooling with the HAF932 and Zalman 9700NT. Plays everything just fine, no stability problems whatsoever.

    - System can pass Futuremark Vantage, Heaven, Prime95, Memtest86, and WMD with slight overclocking:
    - 17296 3DMarks @ 3.31 Ghz CPU w/ 4870X2
    - 17346 3DMarks @ 3.31Ghz CPU w/ 5870

    - However system is super UNSTABLE everywhere else.
    - 5870/5970 will randomly TDR in games at OC or stock.
    - Almost every game will crash to desktop, TDR, or blue-screen with OC settings (BF2, BF2142, TF2, Warhammer Online, you name it).
    - USB devices and SATA devices often fail to enumerate during POST with OC.

    Core:
    ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 - BIOS v0610
    Intel Core i7 920 - Zalman CNPS 9700NT Cooler
    6GB Mushkin Blackline (7-8-7-20)
    WD Velociraptor 300GB

    Multimedia:
    ATi Radeon 4870X2 / 5970
    ASUS Xonar HDAV 1.3 Slim

    Chassis & Power:
    Coolermaster HAF 932
    Seasonic 700W

I'm looking for a new motherboard (had P6TD Deluxe in mind) and I'm a bit confused. Do you need to crossflash the "P6TD Deluxe (0106/0209)" to "P6T Deluxe v2 0006" bios to disable throtteling ? Or can you already disable it in the 0106 or 0209 bios ?
920 D0 (3939b078) and Trident 2000's are already on their way.

i nerver suffered from any throttling with my P6TD. Bios 0106 but i didnt tryed newer since i dont have issue with this one.

    My Highest ( to date ) wPrime2.00 is at 4.448ghz HTon. ( ~6.048sec if i semember. )

My 24/7oc 191x21 with the Trident @ ~1550 7-7-7-21 with 1.54v is just perfect for me ! No issue at all.

In addition, UncleWebb published that ASUS declined to add the non-throttling function to "mainstream" BIOS releases. This function was stated to be reserved for the special releases (i.e. 0006 et all).

    It is true, my fault:

This is not a good BIOS

I know it's hard to read through a thread this big. Most xtreme overclockers are using the 0006 bios, it eliminates cpu throttling. I have no clue what hardware you have Burner27, or if you are overclocking, so why not move on to 0707 and tell us what you think of it. Ultimately, you should be the one to decide which bios to use based on your needs. Overclocking past 4.2GHz, use 0006. For i9 Gulftown, use 0707 most likely. I'm using 0001, but not impressed with it. I'm to lazy at the moment to crossflash back to 0006.

Hi all and Happy new year!

    Order a P6T Deluxe V2.
I have seen in this post and others posts and forums that I can achieve 200Mhz bclk with this board, but which is the overclock average BCLK that has this motherboard? I doubt between P6T and P6T Deluxe V2, I hope I have choosen the best option going to P6T Deluxe V2.

    Hi,

actually the V2 is very badly worded. The V2 is no new board revision at all, it is the very same Deluxe V1 with a sticker on the P6T Deluxe and lacking the SAS controller. Period...

As far as I follwed it all, there was no real difference in BCLK overclockability. All boards basically hit 200-210, and only few pass 220. It is always a matter of your specifical CPU and board how far it goes....

Welp, tot he best of my knowledge. 3.8 GHz are really enough for me.

Play with it RockSolid. Find where it can go paired with your CPU.

Im actually able to run a wPrime at 215bclk but i didnt tryed higher yet.

I just updated to 0707 on my P6T Dlx V2. For some reason I just can't get it to boot from my RAID-0 setup again. I've set SATA configuration to RAID and set Intel RAID0 as no. 1 in the boot priority as well as disconnected all other drives but it still refuses to boot.
It worked fine just before the BIOS update...
Anyone know what the problem might be?

Hi, I'm kind of new here. I have been running stable @ 4.0ghz with my i7 920 on a P6TD Deluxe.

Just wondering if my temps are too high in Prime95.

    I'm currently running these settings.
    cpu voltage - 1.37
    PLL - 1.92
    IOH - 1.20
    ICH - auto
    BCLK - 200
    multiplier - 20x
    Amplitude - 800mV
    LLC - Enabled

I'm using a Cooler Master HAF and a Cooler Master v8 CPU cooler.

In prime I peak at about 77c and idle I'm running around 40c (@ 4.0ghz)

    Thanks in advance.

    Setup system:
    CoolerMaster HAF
    CoolerMaster v8
    Asus P6TD Deluxe
    Intel i7 920
    6gigs tri-channel OCZ Platinum DDR3 1600
    MSI gtx 295

seems like at bclk limit for this P6T.. 226 BCLK and above = no boot..
ive messed with pcie freq, all the voltages, lower mem ratio, loose memory timings etc..
wierd how its linx stable at 225 yet cannot boot 226+ BCLK..??
    any ideas?
    there's a new bios 1004 i might try..

    vtt = 1.30
    ich = 1.30
