    Red face 23.315: HD5850 3DMark Vantage milestone

This result was made as a part of a ASUS Regional Overclocking Championship 2010 qualification. Too bad 5850's PWM isn't as strong as it is on HD5870.

    System:
    Ci7 XE 975 (D0, 0910A)
    ASUS Rampage II Extreme
    2x1GB TG Xtreem DDR3-2000
    1x HD 5850 1GB GDDR5
    40GB Maxtor Diamondmax 9 IDE
    650W Antec TruePower NEW
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    Cooling:
    - LittleDevil CPU-R1 /w liquid nitrogen @ -120 ~ -125°C
    - LittleDevil GFX-R1 /w dry ice + acetone

    Result: P23.315

Wow, you guys almost ruled out everyone in the 5850 category, including multiple cards Vantage is lovely, no need to mention that . If only you had a 5.3GHz+ Vantage chip and some more headroom at the 5850!

Excellent work! This score would rank high even among HD5870s

@George, qballe, Monstru, xoqolatl & Lamb:
Thank you guys for your kind words

Yes, this CPU had another 20-50MHz of head-room but that's it. Not much of 3D chip it seems.

    Best Regards,
    Niko

    Looking good.

Any thoughts on voltage scaling, performance scaling (gpu/mem bottleneck) and coldbug/boot issues?

    masbo,

Voltage scalling as on HD5870, GPU is a true bottleneck, I gained 250pts going from 4.95 to 5.1GHz but gained 700 pts for each 50MHz GPU bump. Memory isn't as critical due to 256-bit bus. No coldboot/coldbug until ~ -170°C (tried a bit with LN2 too but didn't push it as insulation wasn't ready to hold it), just like HD5870 I have tested some time ago: http://www.oc-lab.si/forum/viewtopic.php?p=75742#p75742

    Best Regards,
    Niko

    Awesome result ..
    I like that statement:
"3DMark Vantage - Performance 1x GPU rank: 25th out of thousands, good for 30.2 points"
Considering 5850 is not the fastest single GPU atm

    Awesome sponge_bob, hands down. I'll try to match up with Sabertooth 55i setup & Ci5 750 (I hope it's a good overclocker, the other Ci7 870 I have is a total dissapointment, only 4.9GHz 3D @ -100°C cascade).
