Bios version which I have now doesn't support E0 cpu's (see cpu support list p5k on asus.com). So i have to update.
Will the update affect my Raid configuration?
no, at least it didn't affect mine. probably bios will loose raid configuration, so you'll just need enter Bios, on the first screen set Sata mode to raid again, then during boot up press ctrl+I (enter raid config utility) & just exit (it will automatically restore your raid). This way i've updated bios ~10 times, have lost not a bit of info on my raid.Originally Posted by barzi

I'm struggling to get a Q6600 stable. I'm on the current BIOS, with a mix of memory running at 667.
The box runs ok if I run an OS like NetBSD which can limit to one cpu core. If I run all 4 cores, the unit is very tempramental.
No OC settings (obviously. I'd rather underclock than overclock!)
I've read threads here which suggest the P5KE isn't crash hot at driving the older core2quad. Maybe finding a cheaper 2 core or a newer Q5 or Q7 series might be a way out, but meantime, is there a BIOS setting I am missing which can limit the number of apparent cores?

Hey Gee the family is in the living romm right now watching a blu-ray movie. I tell you this cuz my system with the P5K-E wifi is hooled into my entertainment system there
I run the Q6600 processor in that system. It has been running for over a year with no probs whatsoever. I run it daily at 3200mhz. I run it that slow cuz the living room is so warm.
I run voltage at 1.35 and it stays stable and runs cool.
I run G.Skill HZ memory 4 x 1gig sticks.
You should have no probs running a q6600. I'll let you know what bios here between movies.
The P5K-E wifi in my sig is in my computer room and is kept much cooler. It has been running this clock for well over a year
My P5E even longer, coming up on 2 years both processors are just fine.
My 14 year old son runs an E8400 on his plain P5KE and he runs his daily at 4200mhz and just loves it.

Im running 0401 bios, pretty old.
Everything works fine, overclocked to 3.33 Q6600 from 2.4.
Will i have to flash the bios when i get 4890, or will it work straight away?
It will work fine.
As much as my knowledge goes you can only do it by disabling it in windows.

I just upgraded my E8400 (which I had running @ 4.40Ghz on water) to a Q9550 on the ASUS P5K-E Wifi/AP.
I am getting constant rebooting on this new CPU and can't seem to get it stable...as in I can't even boot into safe mode. I updated my BIOS to 1305 and still the same issues. It keeps hanging and then restarting itself. Has anyone got any bright ideas?

I have read in a german forum that there is a problem with the voltage settings on the P5K-series. If you set the FSB to 400 MHz or higher the voltages (NB and PLL) will raise even if you fixed them to the lowest settings in the BIOS (follow the link and look at the diagrams). Can someone confirm this problem?
I am currently using the P5K-E with BIOS 1305. Because of the fear of damaging my components I have lowered the FSB to 399 MHz.
As the grafic shows, if you have 1.4V NB sholdn't be any problem.

Right, but take a look at the second graph. The Vpll is very high and when I want to overclock I have to set it to 1.6V in BIOS which will result in real 1.68V. That is way too high for a Yorkfield in my opinion.
I think that’s not common to all P5Ks, I’ve measured my P5K-E WiFi-AP VPLL whit a multimeter , it’s set 1.5V on BIOS and it reads 1.54V, I think it’s very good
I’ve heard a lot of that voltage bug on P5Ks, that’s why I bought a multimeter, just in case…

I already own a multimeter but I am afraid of short-circuiting some components on the mainboard. So I have to trust other users statements. In another forum I read that the bug existed on the P5Q-Boards too, but it has been fixed with a former BIOS. Has someone tested if BIOS 1305 completely fixed it on the P5K-E? Or may it be dependent on the revision of the PCB? My board is revision 1.01G.
See for your self, and measure at Idle and Full load, it's a isolated pin, dont be afraid to shurt-circuit any thing, put one in the case chassis and the other like the picture, don't forget to send some feedback.

Need some help here, with Windows Seven, my soundmax doesn’t work properly
No matter what config I change it always give feedback to the person I’m connected.
For exe, when I’m talking with my headset thru Skype, Xfire, Team speak or whatever the person on the Oder side listen to everything in my PC even with the speakers off.
I'm using the latest drivers for Seven, (BETA), when i had XP and Vista it worked fine.

Back againSo I get it stable (Blend Test and Small FFTs) whit the following settings:
FSB – 405 ( 3654 MHz)
RAM Freq. – 811 MHz (4-4-4-15) 2.1 V
VCore – 1.2375 V
PLL – 1.5 V
FSB – 1.30 V
NB – 1.40 V
Pushing any further, only brought trouble, even 410 fsb whit 1.2500 Vcore and 2.2 Vram, it failed both tests. I know it can goes a lot further then this but my RAM are olden me back, they can go higher but only whit CL5

I have the same problem you described earlier with Q9550 hot boots - 1 long & 3 short beeps. It does it on everything but auto settings. If I try to set the FSB manually it starts doing it. Otherwise I was able to run it ok up to about 405 fsb, and even a little higher through SetFSB in Win, but when I restart it starts beeping again.
I was running with pretty much the settings you have above, only PLL was 1.6, tried NB up to 1.7 and it still beeps.
I thought about a P45 board but I am also second guessing if there is any point in spending any more money on older platform. I might just sell the quad and save up some money for an i7 or i5 setup.

I got the board stable. My problem was probably the GTLs. I had them set as advised here CPU 0.63x, and NB 0.67x. I changed the CPU GTL to 0.61 and PLL to 1.5, FSB term remained at 1.3, NB at 1.4. Currently running 423 FSB (1:1 ram) stable@3.6Ghz and 1.25V Vcore. I haven't had time to test higher. I just chose 3.6 as a target and then kept increasing vcore until 1.25 stabilized it fully.
I will push more when I get more time for testing.

I have a Q6600 which doesn't appear stable in all 4 cores. Very informal de-clocking looks to get it back to semi-stable running, and I am seriously considering going down to 1.2Ghz class speeds. My suspicion is that the heatsink was never properly bonded, and one core is overtemping. It might now be permanently damaged, time will tell.
Putting your 'WTF' to one side, in principle is there a good tuning for a massive under-clock on this board which you'd recommend or just leave it as 'auto' across the board?
Also, if you've destroyed a Q6600, whats a good choice of replacement? Right now, a mini-ITX board with an Atom450 is actually where I'm going: rackspace and diskfarm is more useful to me than the cpus in this puppy! But if the mobo is basically ok (and I think it is) what would *you* run in it?

What is the best bios for P5K-E WIFI at the moment? Im still on 0603 and have my q6600 @ 3750MHz and I wanted to know if updating bios will get me more Mhz...
IV0, after trawling through this thread for BIOS info it seems earlier ones like yours and 0602 are the winners.
I finally flashed from 0802 -> 0602..so much better
Regarding the upper (above socket, not I/O) mosfet heat, perhaps its just my board but I'm back to wanting a sink for them as mine get too hot to touch...well at least under Prime95 small FFTs.
Anyone know if you can fit an hr-09S with a Noctua u12p se2 on this board?
