Quite the opposite, actually. The only real complaint for this board is the occasional flaky BIOS. The problem is it isn't consistent. There really isn't a BEST BIOS. Most people are happy with 1.8b4 but many are content with an older BIOS. Its more of a what BIOS works best for you.

Flakey indeed thats for sure, i have tried them all, 184b works best for me, but still needs improvment, there is 15 bios for this board, you would think 1 would be a stand out, im in the process of returning my board, there are better board choices in my opinion.

Without testing the crosshair 3 I would say the GD70 is the best out of the boards i tested, hence why I got behind it supporting it as best i can. I find peoples expectations are usually more of the issue than the board under performing.
There is 1 bios you guys have not seen for this board, i will ask MSI is it could be released to the forums, its an oldie but a goodie although its totally manual and VERY VERY hard to tweak...it does allow you to set what the board may need or your ram may need though. One bad thing is it was released well before C3 was available..

Its designation is 000, it was officially released to around 4 people after 2 of those testers asked for specific items to be added.

Don't push or PM me, i will ask MSI and respect the NO if that is what they give, if they say yes I will add it to the list of bios files over on the OCZ forum

I haven't found any HT Sync Flood Errors since moving to 1.8b3. 1.6 didn't give any problems whatsoever either.
It's 1.7 to stay away from if you know what's good for you.

Your intitled to your opinion on the the board Tony, and i know you know 50 times more than i do about this board and overclocking. My question is why would we have to go to a secret msi bios nobody even has heard of or knows how to get it ?. Why cant MSI just make a couple of solid bios for this board that are known to people, so we dont have to try 15 different ones.

You read this thread and you come out wondering still what bios to use, the only recomendation i have had is 1.3b6, its a decent bios but that bios gives me random lockups, thanks for your input Tony. I like the board and layout, like the bios feautures, but most all the bios are buggy, there are several complaints about this board and there the bios issues.

For me the board is rock-solid... The one and only problem I have is that since BIOS 1.5b2 and forward I can't clock my NB abit over 2400mhz is a BIOS wall I can't pass, but while booted I can easily push it to 3000mhz stable...

Before version 1.5b2 I could easily boot from 4100mhz CPU/3000mhz NB without a problem but something happened after that version and now booting at anything above ~2400mhz is impossible

Well I tend to agree that it is a good board, but msi just have not got the bios going. I am at 1.8b4 and still can't get my ram stable at 1600. 1333 cl6 is geeat runs well. But 1600 fails prime 1 second after it starts. And the computer does not crash. Prime just stops with errors. This at no oc on cpu or cpu nb

I have hit 3000 nb like 1 time, very hard on this board to hit 3000 nb. The problem is as nice as the layout is, and all the hype, what makes a good board after layout is BIOS and how well it overclocks and stability, MSI needs major bios work on this board, and for me i look at it like this board has been out for quite some time, and still buggy bios.

Who knows, when they get to near final bios it may rock, but the way its going with as many bios that have been released and there still very buggy it dont look like it. You look at the post your C3 results, Best ddr 3 for AMD, there are some sweet clocks in those threads, i dont recall seeing any from this board, there mostly all from Crosshair iii and Gig UD5P, now why is that.

Some swear by this board, some dont like it, everybody is intitled to there opinion, but onething is for sure there are bios issues.

Pretty well said Mike. The fact that MSI keeps pumping out BIOSes for the board says something. It means that 1. MSI acknowledges that the BIOS still needs work and 2. MSI is committed to supporting this board as best as they can. Whether or not they ever release that "best BIOS" in the near future, I'm not sure. I personally don't have the CPU/RAM/Cooling to push super serious levels of overclocking so for now, I'm pretty content.

I'll be interested to see if their new 890FX GD70 is plagued with BIOS inconsistencies as well or if it picks up where the 790FX left off and finds it itself stranded as King of AMD boards for 2010.

Well MSI to me used to be a great motherboard company back in the 939 days and around then, i used many MSI boards and loved them. They sort of dropped out of competition for some years , and now they have new package labeling and are trying to get back in the game from what i have read and see.

I like the board and i really wish they had there act together, so maybe they just dont have the greates bios writting guys working for MSI, i dont know. I know now there really trying to get the little bugs out, and probally not really worrying about overclocking, but thats what is going to sell this board to guys like us on here, is a solid overclocker and good rep that follows the board. I guess we see where it goes.

we get it, you dont like the board...

personally ive never had a problem with it what so ever. with just air ive have had my c2 @ 3860mhz 2600nb 24/7 for the entire time i owned it, switched to c3, did 30 min. of prime for simon @ 4100mhz & 4200mhz, ran 3dmark06 w/ 345ht multiple times, ran 3dmark06 @ 4335mhz 2800+nb w/ ram over 1600mhz 7.7.7.24, etc (24,000 on air ). and have never had a problem. im using bios 1.7 from the site and have never had sync flood, and have been running my c3 @ 4014mhz 2676nb ram is 1486mhz c7 since i got it and have screenshots of this mobo passing prime with hella different settings around 4000mhz/26-2700nb/1600c7ram. personally i love the board

Ok we get it YOU like the board. I like the board, i dont like the buggy bios, and im running my ram much higher than yours, maybe you can share you volts for your 24/7 use, would love to see if i can pass prime. I have had loads of sync flood errors, but im guessing your not doing high benching with yours, but would love to see your settings, i havent given up all the way on it yet. Dont mean to be a complainer i just feel that with all the bios that are out, there would be one where there saying HEY GUYS 1.66c.... is great, but that aint the case, seems like everybody is asking everybody else what bios is good, and there is no solid answer, ok im done.

Curious anybody taken off the NB heatsink on this board and replaced the thermal paste with some good stuff, does that heatsink come off easy ?

Flawl i did take back my board to FRYs and got my money back, but i picked this board up off here barely used for a very good deal, so im going to play with it some more. Alot of it im sure is my lack of experience with AMD, understanding all the voltages etc, but im learning with help from XS members and playing around, i do have a pretty solid clock for 24/7 but i need to let it run prime for more than 30 min, tonight i let it run 3-4 hours to be sure is rock stable.

We are finally getting some cold weather here is So Calif, its been like 52 at night, definitly not helping me get some good clocks, tonight will be in the 30s so should help alot. Those east coast and europe guys have the advantage of really cold air they can cash in on.

No its not ure lack of udnerstanding...this bord does have some bios issues...solid board, great looking, but ram clocking is a problem...i just worked my ram on a giga 790fxt and it worked great, with the same settings that i was using on this board...but on the msi, 1600 is difficult..I know others have done it, bbut this is what I am facing.
