So I'm trying to get 4.2GHz stable and I need some input.

    495x8.5
vcore - 1.35 (went up to 1.375 during testing)
    PLL - 1.5
    VTT - 1.38
    MCH - 1.50
    CPU ref - 0.86
MCH ref - around 0.87 or so.

I can post into windows but when I run the Intelburntest sometimes it won't catch. I'll start it and the cores will go to 100% but the temps won't go all the way up. So I'll stop it then restart it and then it acts normally. Once it completes I get bad times and scores. When the temps do go up I'm in the 70's.

I took the CPU out of the equation and with 1.5 MCH volts I got the board to 515 FSB before it started to get unstable so I thought it wouldn't be the mobo. Perhaps more CPU volts?

    What volts should I up?

Also what is the "system" temperature in ET6? The NB temp?

vcore - 1.35 (went up to 1.375 during testing)
    PLL - 1.5
    VTT - 1.34
    MCH - 1.40
CPU ref - 0.86 - one notch above or below may help
MCH ref - around 0.87 or so - same for this

These are what I use for 500x9 which is P95 stable. I would urge you to try and tune the CPU/NB clock skews they help a lot. Mine work best at 150/150, but 0/50 work just as well - P95 fails in certain size tests will also give you more info about what you might need to adjust imo. MCH ref is also important, make sure this is tuned - best way is to test and find you own.

The System temperature is just that, just a sensor for the motherboard. No NB temps I'm afraid.

P45 doesn't have a temp sensor as far as I know. At least not one that can be read out with the usual programs.

Thanks for clearing up that system temp.

One thing I've noticed about my MCH ref is that I have to run it pretty far out of spec to get good results.

The default is as you know 0.76/1.10 = 0.69. With a 1.5v MCH ref I would need a 1.035 GTL value. Well if I set it to that my machine will blue screen while loading windows. I have to set my MCH REF to .901 or LOWER to get any good results. Right now I'm at .861/1.5 which is a .57 ratio which is much lower than the stock .69 I don't know if that means anything but I haven't tried messing with the skews yet, perhaps that'll change things.

I run the CPU REF right on normal and adjusting that either way doesn't seem to do much in the way of stability. I can run it either way pretty far out of spec and still boot.

I'm at 500x8 = 4GHz with 150/150 CPU/MCH skew and one bump up on the CPU REF to .88 and turned the VTT to 1.36 got me this:

I'm getting somewhere woohoo, that bump in the CPU REF helped stabilized my times. Before the first couple runs in the burn test were sub par then the last 3 were normal.

    You really shouldn't need 1.5V for 500FSB :/

I use 1.36V, which seems high after coming from my P5Q Deluxe which did 512fsb 1.26Vnb

Not even if I'm running 2x2GB sticks? I heard it takes more volts to run 2GB sticks.

I wanted to buy a EP45-UD3P to replace my MIIF so I could have some fun benching my Q9650 outside in the snowy nights (-10 here at nights), but I can't find that mobo anywhere in Europe. Does someone happen to know a shop that still sells that board in Europe? The egg has it, but doesn't ship to Europe

I do.. If I turn mine down to 1.46 it won't boot so I figure why not leave it at 1.5 and be safe..

P45 does have NB/SB/PWM and Motherboard sensors.

Motherboard is simply the surface temp (inside of your case temp) of the Mobo, it used to be near the CMOS Battery on older Mobos.

I cannot comment on if Gigabyte have readings for them all though.

I got mine on a lucky one-off from belgium. It's worth looking amongst the european sellers - the one I bought was reasonably hidden away

You can get from E Bay USA and it will cost about £100 inc Shipping.

Just make sure you get box marked as GIFT or RMA and value at MAX of about £40 or you could get hit with a TAX when you get it and then its not worth the cost.

I just had a really good look at a High RES photo of this Mobo and its sure one ugly f00ker, had a bad layout and looking at build quality which is basic with some parts cooled by non heatpipes and only push pins holding the sinks you wonder how the hell it clocks so far better than the Asus ROG's which look good and are built well with every part heatpiped cooled and all screwed down

I played around some more and got this:

    GTL's are:

    CPU REF = 0.916 for a 1.36vtt
    MCH REF = 0.861 for a 1.46 MCH core

Still at 150/150 CPU/MCH skew. Haven't played with the vcore yet, I'm sure I can get it lower than 1.3 for 4GHz.

After I got the board, I certainly wasn't attracted to the colour scheme (if that exists), but the build quality is far better imo. Ok, so it has a lot less features, but if you look closely enough, you can see that the placement of the SMDs look more accurate, and the solder has a nicer shine to it than my MIIF did. The heatsinks around the board may seem somewhat flimsy with push-pins etc, but it actually makes a much more solid contact with the parts, in particular the mosfets. After removing the heatsink (which I had to gently pull and peel away),the indentations on the thermal pads were consistent and covered all of the devices. The MIIF is quite tricky because you can't easily see if it's making good contact, and it's assembly is often skewed or simply doesn't match the board - it's a good idea, but cumbersome and too much to go wrong imo.

I have the EP45-UD3P rev 1.6 with a Q6600 (for now) and I can run linX with no probs, but sometimes on cold boot I get a double boot. Anybody got a idea on how to fix this it getting me pissed off lol.

    Happy Holidays to you radaja

So here I am at those settings above and while I'm stable with the "standard" burn test, going up to the "high" which is the max I can do because it uses all my RAM. I'm getting ty times and GFlops. I tried upping VTT, MCH and vcore and NOTHING seems to help!!

If I run the standard test I get about 17s with 51GFlops, with the High test it's like 80 seconds with 35-37GFlops which should be around 55.

What do you suggest I do???

If I run the standard test I get about 17s with 51GFlops, with the High test it's like 80 seconds with 35-37GFlops which should be around 55.

What do you suggest I do???
I can help you with this one my friend. You need to make sure your MCH Ref Voltage is perfectly centered or, happy. Then you need to work your CPU Ref up and down until it settles where it likes and it takes a couple of times to get it just right.

You should be able to watch your temps level out and reach the highest levels you have seen when you get it centered just right while under load. You will also notice that your temps while under load don't bounce around as much also when you have it just right. Also your temps while coming down from a load from testing, will go down faster right before the load hits it again then it should shoot right back up nice and level on all cores. Mine does the exact same thing but, I have mastered getting it to sit just right.

You will also notice if you are anal like me with things that if you test it while it is cold from sitting turned off all night that if you don't have it just right it will mess up at first when testing it right away after boot. If you have it set just right 100% you will hit those nice even high temps after first booting it up and testing it, which in turn equals those nice high GFlops as well.

P.S. If you have it set wrong a little you will also notice that some of the test will pass "utilizing lower amounts memory" but, the higher amount of memory test will fail that just means you have more tweaking to do. If you bounce the CPU ref up and down you will find the center point that is just right, it just takes patience.

I will let mine do a couple of small test and if it is good I will let it run until it frees up some space to where I should have about 3500MB~ of free memory and I will stop the test and run the higher memory test to see if it gets through it as well. This process saves allot of time IMO.
