Ive already run this cpu at 4.5ghz for 3dm06 with proper bios

    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=12546550

Im sure using a bios that doesnt support the cpu is holding me back somewhat regardless of cold.

out of curiosity i went back and looked at the original c2 thread to find that out of 10 people zues was the only one who was prime stable over 4ghz

then i looked back at this thread =) im pretty sure everyone (like 13-15ish people) got stable over 4ghz

well done AMD! a great CPU indeed!

nice Titan! Its the best here, think? I cant hit 4200MHz, its strange, because 4165 MHz its OK at 1.5V and 4200+1.55V dont help me.

Thanks buddy! It took a lot to get it, I wish I had a better bios to work with maybe Id get a bit higher

Keep trying man, I think maybe water will help you get what you need? Temp could still be a problem for you?

Titan: temps are not big problem for me, in burn (PRIME or LInX) with 1.52V i have max 59 C. In benchmarks under 55 C, but, maybe my problem is cooling, only AIR and not so good C3 chip-maybe average. But i faint not .

    Thanks,

that was not an entry for you, that was just showing that I had run 4.5ghz it was prolly the same as below because its the same voltage setting about 26c load.

this is my entry for this thread

    263fsb with 17 multi

Done on the 1103 bios which does not support c3 but since it gave good fsb for c2(295)......I was able to squeeze some performance out of it. This is booted from bios, AOD does not work my temps are different becuse there is no idle time I boot from the bios and start 3dm06 while windows continue to load all the crap on this (my daily OS)

Great scores guys, this has been quite the adventure so far and prolly opened alot of peoples eyes into a more detailed understanding with whats going on with their particular system

Come to think of it, it was even done with 23ºC ambient.

I have to say everybody in this thread is trying a lot harder and using much better cooling.

Still C3 is better than C2, that's for sure when it comes to clocking the cores but i'm not sure about the CPU-NB.

    The CPU-NB on my 955 C2 clocked a hell of a lot better (3GHz+) than on my 965 C3 (2.7GHz) and i know Dave's and beta's don't clock that well too.

CPU-NB clocks scale with cold so the results from the guys with ice/chilled cooling are in another league.

Maybe a good idea to show a 32M run with maxed out CPU-NB clocks for the final round Simon?

To be fair Zeus I've never really cranked the v's on the IMC. I've ran it up as high a 1.325 though and still couldn't get 2800 stable.

My sweet spot seems to be ~2700 @ 1.275, anything higher than that just requires more voltage than I'm comfortable with... Clock/voltage scaling gets really bad after 2700.

Dave, i can run fully stable at 2.6 CPU-NB with 1.175V but i can't get 2.8CPU-NB stable, not even with 1.35V+

Just found a note on my old 955 C2, 3000MHz CPU-NB 1.32V. Can't remember how stable that was but i have a screen somewhere doing 1M at 3048MHz.

people may have tried a little harder overall in this thread, but even the first few posts when people just got their chips in, pretty much everyone could hit 4.0 on normal ambients without much problems..

and my c3 NB isnt very strong either, does 2.6ghz w/ 1.25v stable (maybe less ill have to test further), but i dont think i can get it stable @ 2.8 on air even w/ 1.35v+

u have right, with air cooling and normal ambients i can hit 4034 mHz stable (my chip is not so good). With NB i have a little problem-2600-2700 is very easy but 2800 stabile is hardcore . And for benchmarks i cant hit 3000MHz (only 2960MHz in superpi ). Think, very good work AMD (from 3.6GHz X4 940 stable up 4.1GHz x4 965 C3!), hope, Thuban will simillary for overclocking

I'm one of the few who couldn't hit 4.0 on room temp air. Of course, it was a different story when I let it taste cold air, and I have a decent nb as well (2.8@1.35 at room temp). I never did get around to trying higher, since voltage seems to be going up exponentially, but perhaps I'll give that a go tonight (again at room temp).

I have to say, I like the idea of putting the rad outside or in the window, rather than lifting the whole case up there. It would still have to be movable though, since it gets too cold to leave it out there.

    Nice job everyone!

Titan7171, that is nice but that's not a fair comparisation to normal cooled cpu's. The CPU-NB scales with cold. How high can you clock it with just a radiator and normal ambient temps?

I don't want to take anything away from you as you've done great in this thread but i'm trying to figure out how good the CPU-NB of the C3 really is.

I'm inclined to think on average it's slightly worse than C2 revision.

I think, Chews C3 was with normal ambient and 3000MHZ NB. Grinder, i believe you, u can hit 4GHz stable, but must jump at voltage more. I had all easy up 3970MHz and than began hard work with voltage , every 20MHz up i must jump up voltage one step ...And finaly, 4030MHz with 1.52V stable

1.55v wasn't enough for me to hit 4ghz at room temp, but I suppose I can try a little more. The issue will be temp, once I try for high nb to go along with it. Maybe if my waterblock was more efficient (it's for a socket a!) and if I didn't have the gpu in the loop as well.

I don't want to take anything away from you as you've done great in this thread but i'm trying to figure out how good the CPU-NB of the C3 really is.

I'm inclined to think on average it's slightly worse than C2 revision.

i think you would have better luck getting stable @ 4ghz with <1.55v ... and even ~1.5v or less would probably be best bet. w/ everything default except 20x multi & 1.5v core, how long before it fails prime? how are the temps at load?

Nice one Titan7171 but 1.55V is pushing it for sure. Still at 3GHz a nice result but i don't think it was Prime blend stable, was it?

    crazydiamond:
I started low and worked my way up, changing multi then nudging voltage to cpu if it failed. Stock settings for nb and ram, trying for .5 hr prime95 stable using ambient air.

3.7 ghz was the best I could do @ 1.4v
    3.8 ghz @ 1.425
    3.9 ghz @ 1.4875
    4.0 ghz @ 1.55 failed (ran 10 min p95 blend iirc)
3.969 @ 1.565 passed. In cpuz it displayed 1.552v, so I'm getting a little droop sometimes. 52.5c core towards the end of this run.

    With cold air, I've done a bit better. 4118 .5 hour prime stable (4108 with 2750nb and 777 1666 ddr3), and 4250 in 3dmark06.

    I've been using 3.875 @ 1.5 (250 ht, 2750 nb @ 1.35, tight c7 @ 1666) day to day, ambient room temp.

Although my c3 isn't quite as good as most of you guys, I'll still see a better ROI from a better graphics card, rather buying another one. Besides, I still have a 550be sitting on my desk

    EDIT
Just tried 20x200, 1.5, everything stock. BSOD and reboot 21 seconds after starting blend. Ambient 17c (haven't started the woodstove yet). It is undervolting a little, 1.488 I think.

    FlanK3r:
0942FPMW 965BE C3, with the water setup in my sig. Same stepping Lastviking had.

Chapter 2 | I believe your C3's have suffered enough on my account | If you entries are incomplete you may finish what you have begun | The data herein is a compendium of the possible with superlative supporting data and results | Many will look here for guidance in the months to come | Congratulations! | My task remains to compile results and bestow honors | Honorable work and superior collaboration!

Chapter 3 | Look For My PM On The First Dawn of the New Year | The death-watch tick is stifled. Enter none who strive therefore: on the sudden it is won. Just when the sufferer begins to burn, then it is free to him; and from an urn, still fed by melting ice | Keats

Intermission | Zeus or volunteer might give us a sample 32M run with SpeedFan so we can see the load characteristics | Might be interesting to see something with more transience loading up and down, as we have already tested moderate load with high-load spike (on 3D06) and full load (on Prime95) | A game perhaps...

Holliday | I am sticking around | Scheming | Playing some games, watching some movies on the Console | Been a long year time to enjoy the technology a bit... | Writing a bit... | Preparing for more overclocking...
