Good move.
I couldn't believe when they announced indefinite support of TRIM by G1 a few months ago.
This was not annouced anywhere AFAIK...But after querying my contacts at Intel, they said "try this"I'm glad I did

Firmware 8820 has been out for those Gen1 drives for a while now, I flashed it on mine back in May?
I also get the same here from my cmd prompt
I cannot see how this would change... even the release notes say that nothing has changed... see hereCode:C:\Windows\system32>fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify DisableDeleteNotify = 0

No Change
No changes for Intel X18-M/X25-M SATA SSD 50nm products. The most current firmware stays at 045C8820.

Not sure why nobody has caught onto this then
This revision says it was released on 30 November...![]()

I am no expert miahallen but I believe Intel release firmware updates in a bulk package. The component which was new or changed on the 30th of November was a new firmware for the Gen2 X-25m (34nm drives with silver tops). This firmware was a more robust and bug fixed version of the firmware released on the 26th of October 2009.
Sorry if I was being harsh, just I nearly fell off my chair and did a dance of joy as I really thought that a firmware was finally released for the Gen1 X-25M
You are right though, the 8820 firmware does improve things over the original firmware

No problem John...I couldn't believe it myself. All I know is that I was getting very disappointed with my G1 drive and I was about to list it for sale. But, I decided to reach out to my contacts at Intel first...they told me to do this and it worked. No tricks involved, I just simply flashed the drive and the performance #s above speak for themselves...the comand prompt script above is supposed to confirm TRIM oprability...according to OCZ:

I've been really critical lately of Intel, so now I'll give them LOTS of credit for doing the right thing. They are helping to restore confidence in their brand, as well as SSD's in general. If I owned a G1, I'd be happy.
Don't have the Matrix installed, but CM show's TRIM is not enabled, and FW revision 8820

According to this thread, TRIM is best determined to be both supported and enabled by using the command you SSed earlier.
http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-...native-w7.html
Perhaps CM is just recognizing the drive as a G1 and assuming TRIM doesn't work, without actually querying the drive?
That's a shame.. Intel ditched all the hardware enthusiast and pioneers by denying TRIM support for the Gen1 users..
..but keep on putting pressure on Intel by signing this petition to get official TRIM support for the Gen1 drives: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/intel-x25-m-g1-trim/

Live to Mod.. Mod to Live!
I just ran this command on on of my home computers, which currently has a 250gb spindle hard disk, and has never ever touched an SSD, and it reported the system's TRIM commands were working...
i think this command line isnt necessarily indicative of the drive itself utilizing the TRIM commands, but it does imply that the system does in fact have trim turned on.
for the glory of bardob!
Better delete this thread or you'll get every g1 owners hopes up...
@ArcticOC:
Yupp, the 8820 FW is quite old, and does not support TRIM, and no TRIM FW on gen. 1 is as lame as can be by Intel.. Intel just don't care unless it hurts their wallet, and even if some of us that still hurt from the prices of the gen. 1 drives fight for the TRIM support, it seems like there is just to many people who do not bother retaliate against the company that screwed them, and this does not go unnoticed by Intel, ergo no TRIM FW..
My 3 Gen. 1 drives still are neck and neck with the Gen. 2 (even beats them on numeros occations, my E still owns the lot) drives in the benchmarklists in my thread, and Intel SSD division will not get a dime more from me untill they cough up TRIM support. If not, a Sandforce controlled unit will get my doe the next time around... Petition signed, wake up people and do the same...

Most of us will only need to see the FW number of 8820, and then we will know the validity of OP's statements.. If he has been without GC a long time, he will get some performance returns from 8820, but there is no way this compares to TRIM, unfortunately Gen. 1 also needs TRIM to be a proper userfriendly SSD, allthough Intel seems to dismiss this as a valid argument and screwes us up the dark one.. F*** you Intel, and have a merry christmass![]()

8820 had been shipping with G1 drives for quite a while already. And duh, it has no TRIM.
Aye, this is an old update. My G1 is still slow as ass (under OSX).
glad to see Intel so eager to succeed in non-x86 sectors...lolz

g1 was designed to not use trim nor need it. that's why a used g1 will beat a used g2 that hasn't been trimmed

^This.
CrystalDiskInfo reports the output from a SMART flag and if it says that TRIM is enabled then CDI will say it's enabled, regardless of whether the drive can actually TRIM or not.
Also, simply enabling TRIM will not give you a performance increase instantly. Windows will not resend the TRIM command because as far as it's concerned the blocks containing deleted data have already been erased, even if they haven't. Some other change gave you the performance increase.
