It's not a failure for them, they have made bucketloads of cash, but it's a failure for most other people. PC gamers have crappy multiplayer and viruses, one million modded xbox users got banned from XBL [and had their consoles vandalized] pre-emptively because of the impending release, associated content reports that Xbox sales are down because parents have been scared by reports of the ban, and a million modded xboxes that still play pirate singleplayer games are about to get dumped onto ebay for cheap. So we got screwed, a good chunk of the xbox crowd got screwed, and MS got screwed, but IW are laughing.
Core i7 920, Gigabyte x58-USB3, Radeon 5850 [CF coming soon], 6GB OCZ Platinum, Corsair 40GB Force, 3x 2TB Spinpoint F4, Silverstone OP1000, Dell XPS Studio Case.

    Alienware M11x.

Owners of modded xboxes didn't get screwed. They violated the EULA quite clearly. The egg is wholly on their faces.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

EULAs are not valid in good old europe, because such terms must be clearly visible before you buy a product.
Notice any grammar or spelling mistakes? Feel free to correct me! Thanks

Everything is a false positive until it's confirmed to be a false negative
    Are we there yet?

This keeps getting better and better. I like the game play and can deal with the semi high pings and IWnet. Viruses? Was I totally naive to think maybe IW had enough foresight or care to provide countermeasures? It's been what? A week? Imagine what's going to happen in a month, or better yet, a year!

And on another note, all this crap about Activision charging a monthly fee... what the hell? Are they just testing the water to see how far the PC crowd will bend? That's ridiculous. I mean, if they provided services that were worth $60 + $10 or $15 or whatever they want a month I would consider it, but for god's sake, we have CoD4 right here with everything we want for free!

    Yep.

And the loudest ones that called for us to boycott IW will be the loudest ones kicking and screaming if IW ends all PC game development.

IW leaving PC development won't matter at this point imo...

What about other developers, what if they considered doing the same?

Other companies will move in to fill the void. It's still a market - maybe just not as squeezable as Activision and EA think.

I do realize the fact that could happen... because pc doesn't make money as console do and money is what they care, do you think they give a crap about us pc gamers now? think again...

would be the best game ever if they didn't do the fail decision of removing dedicated servers and the other stuff you can do in other series...

True, to an extent. But more titles for consoles also means more competition in those markets. Which means less profits per title, with exceptions of course. The average programmer/scripter/mapper/artist entering the console game market will have to compete with more of their type. They will have to take lower wages and work harder hours. All of this is derived from basic economics.

And all of that is still forgetting the human factor. Some good developers may stay with PC because that's what they enjoy. PC will have new technologies to explore long before the consoles will. Sometimes flexing your creative muscles can be as rewarding as earning a little more doing something you don't enjoy as much.

at first i wanted to say HAHAHAHAHAHA, but then again, IW will just continue to not care about the PC version. they didnt care from the start, they will not care now, everyone who has already bought and tried to enjoy the game (no, still not me) will be denied action from IW.

if 1 million PC gamers buy MW2 then IW/ Activision makes $60 million. I hardly think that the cost to bring MW2 to PC cost this much or the development in general.

they dont make that much, they have to print the disks and then there is markup to make it $60 msrp and since some stores were selling it $50 on launch then im guessing that its a $35-40 store cost per unit

how do u violate an EULA when u only agree affter purchased when its turned on, and the EULA goes against the DMCA in the US and they revoke more than live service so they go against the TOS themselves

Hey IW you idiots. Now do see why we like our dedi servers. Its not because we are being a bunch of picky stubborn ass holes. Its cause its the most efficient system possible on the pc at the current moment. You ing idiots.

Thnx for bowing to money and not giving a crap about the gamers. and coding in the game everything good that us pc users love and just flipping a disable switch. what a bunch of priks.

I went looking for proof on this to change the thread title / possibly close the thread with but I came up empty. I see 3 threads on IW's forums about it with 0 responses from IW regarding the issue. If you have links I would appreciate it.

Incidentally, the lack of response from IW in any of those threads is very disturbing to me. You'd think they would be all over that kind of thing, it's very bad for PR. But then, maybe they figure they made enough $$ already.

We still have valve. Sure, valve time is pretty bad but they support a game throughout the entire life of it and the quality of their games is generally really good IMO.

    TF2 for me.

On topic though, I'm pretty sure that stuff's coming out soon that smokes MW2 in most categories...
