Do you mean if you leave it on Auto the Vtt is above 1.35v at your current OC? Most motherboards seem to set needlessly high voltages when left on Auto when overclocked. This doesn't
mean it's safe though, technically running it over the max rating is unsafe. However many people run Vtt above 1.35v as it's necessary for high uncore and ram clocks. Push it as hard as you're
comfortable with, no one can tell you anything over the max is safe though.

My idea about the core i7 and the X58 is that there is no shared ground that the one can stand on to overclock, every motherboard and every CPU is totoally different and one can't rely on information regarding one batch or the other.

I think the whole idea of seeing other people settings is just to see and understand more variables in overclocking the core i7!

Right now I decided to try something else, this time I'm not going to focus on CPU voltage, QPR/DRAM voltage only, I'm considering the IOH and ICH voltages now.

Right now I'm trying to understand the voltage scaling of the ICH/IOH on the bclk.

    I'm using
    CPU voltage @ 1.35
    QPI/DRAM @ 1.375

    ICH and IOH @ 1.27
IOH and ICH PCIE @ 1.6

Currently testing 208 x 14 and I hope raising these voltages would help me stabling things!

(1)People often report instability after flashing to a new BIOS; did you set all settings again manually or load the preset saved settings from the old BIOS? (2)Apart from potential settings set incorrectly when loading saved settings from an OC profile, sometimes real voltages can be different despite the same BIOS set voltage being selected. (3)As you are getting instability with the latest BIOS, when all settings are set manually again, have you confirmed all the voltages are what they used to be?
(1)In my case, yes, i have set everything in manual, some of them at their stock voltage, like the IOH, and PCI Express.

(2)About the profiles, you even can't load them anyways... when you try it say something about not matching.

(3)I checked my voltages with a voltimeter and look like it show a little lower compared with what was showing with Bios 1504, so yeah, i tried upping voltages on the critical ones, Vcore Voltage, QPI/DRAM Voltage, CPU PLL Voltage and RAM Voltage, and no go, still i get error at 3 minutes of running LinX. I rolled back to Bios 1504 and passed it.

    I used 1.35v for 3.75 ghz uncore.
Anyways you set in BIOs 1.55v you get like 1.48v in full load, at least with my board, measured with a voltimeter.
I had to set 1.525v in QPI/DRAM Voltage to actually give me 1.45v in full load. In idle i get 1.48v.

Hmm great idea, I didn't think you can backup from one BIOS to another !

OK 6 hours of testing at 208, every thing is fine, I shall wait another hour before I try to raise the bclk to 210 which is at least what I want to use!

    I'm aiming at 4.4GHz - 4.5GHz

OMG I'm able to boot to windows and start prime95 for the first time ever with bclk higher than 208 !!!

Before than the PC wouldn't complete POST at all !!

    I'm still with BIOS 1639 !

    I finished 7:30 hours of prime95 @ 208 and now I'm 10 min. priming with 210.

Try occt goes way faster to get error if it's unstable

    hello,

I recently finished testing my new overclock. Can anyone check if the voltages and temps are OK (using 920 D0)?

    End result:

    CPU Vcore: 1.35V
    CPU PLL: 1.815V
CPU VTT / "QPI/DRAM CORE": 1.25V <----- Was going to go lower, but due to it dropping under load, I feared this would put a difference of more than .5V between it and the DRAM bus voltage

    Bclck: 211MHz
    Multi: x21

    DRAM Speed: 1688MHz, 6-7-6-18 2T (1.64V)

    Hyperthreading disabled

70C max temp under a few hours of intel burn test

I am a little disappointed it took so much voltage for 4.43GHz to be achieved without even having HT enabled. I was expecting D0 to perform considerably better. Are the temps a little high too (esp. considering HT is disabled)?

For cooling, I have a Laing d5 pump, TFC 360 rad + 6 GELID fans, swiftech apogee CPU and MCWNB MAX blocks. NB temp is at 50C under load.

Okay third time the question once again. Does anyone have any issues with the usb ports dropping power on their board?

Thanks for your time and answer. I'm not sure if it is the ports dropping power 100% or the connector itself on the motherboard perhaps loose.

I broke a g-15 in half because i thought it was the keyboard then used a ps/2 keyboard and moved my mouse to the same port and it did it also.

5 hours of OCCT + 50 pass of LinX goes fine then when prime it goes down.

That' s why I prefer Prime95, though it is slower but more effective in finding errors.

For me it have always been a time saver. If it's unstable in prime it could fail first after 5 hours while in occt it would take only 15 min to get an error. :O

Great, finished another 8 hours of prime95 at 211bclk !!!

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet finally able to break the 208bclk

Now I should start overclocking the CPU to 4.4GHz!
I'll do that later this afternoon !

Exactly my point, the x58+ Core i7 is a very unpredictable platform.

I finally got my speakers up and running in my new room. I plugged them into the sound card that follows with the board (I know 2/3 of them are right, not quite sure about the last), but where do I choose that I want to use speakers and not my headset?

OK for people with not so high bclk with this motherboard, have you tried to raise voltage on ICH/IOH ?

Seems to work with me !

What did you set the ICH to?

What did you set IOH to?
