I learned to fly by starting my own BF2 server so I could be the only 1 on the map and fly without being shot at. Also to learn the maps faster.
A friend with dialup (no other choice) used to play on the phone. We would each start our own Far Cry Local server and cruise in the boats, explore the maps keeping track of each other on the phone.
There is really not much to explore on a CoD map without custom maps.

If people don't like what IW has done with this release, they can vote with their wallet and buy something else. I am getting a little tired of people hammering IW for the decisions they made with this - I get it, I just don't get why those peeps don't understand that IW is going to make a FORTUNE on MW2. If the haters were running that company they might see things a *little* differently. I'd be happy to answer to a subset of pissed off users if my company released a product that sold $300M in the first day. Any guesses how much of that was the PC version vs. the consoles? No-one in their right mind would give up that revenue and emphasize the PC version.

FWIW - I think that IW will now change put some effort into the PC version and probably re-think this now that the consoles are released and done. I won't be at all surprised if the graphics get update in future patches and they add the dedicated server capability, etc.

1 Billion McDonalds eaters couldn't be wrong.
This will make room for other game developers, custom map makers and those looking for a different experience than swimming in the shallow end of a public pool.

+1 for vote with your dollar. On a side note, I got the game and even though I didn't play the first MW, I can tell how bad IW servers are even though I have a good connection, got kicked out several times and experience some lagging during the match. Hopefully IW will hear us and have support for dedicated servers soon.

lol what? then why did you comment and quote my post? damaged sense of priorities? what are my priorities? i don't know wtf you are taking about. maybe someone else in this thread can help me understand.

    funny though lol

lots of people seem to be having server lag type issues that seem to be degrading play on a regular basis. have you found lag that is consistent and detracts from game play; not all lag is significant and detracts from game play... some people are okay with some aren't. I'm not. With dedicated server I can control my lag.

it seems you like to label people and according to you I:
    - have messed up priorities
    - write "breezy"
    - rant or throw a temper tantrum
    - post in a confusing manner (i guess you are saying my arguments are cohesive?)

You seem to know a lot about me from just a few written words.

I try not to label people from just 3 posts they have written. I would be nice to post an opinion and not have a fellow PC'er rag on it w/o first understanding what I really meant.

That video was retarded but it made me laugh (speciall the german shepherd dog with his arm on top of the house lol)

Anyways, I got the game for PC. Played the single player and beat it. Even though IW killed the game when it comes to the online part, they have the most amazing single player I have played in my life.

Its not just the PC thats suffering. I got the 360 version and I'm having some terrible issues at the beggining of games where it seems like every one except one player (I assume the person hosting it,) is bouncing all over the place and its not untill all but one or two people have quite the game that service resumes to normal.

The annoying thing is though if you quit don't you get negative experience so your rank goes down? Or was that just in COD4?

The service with Live is usually pretty good (it should be you have to pay for the bloody thing,) but this is the worse online experience for lag that I have had across all of the current generation of consoles. I've got half a mind to go back to Killzone 2 for my online console fps kicks.

Video got taken down due to "copyright claims by Activision". So once the proof of their failure to keep cheaters out becomes evident, they attempt to hide it by pulling the "copyright" BS.

I bought the game yesterday, and I think I'd have to give it about a 4/10 review. The gameplay is fun, but IW tried to it up in every way possible:

    - FOV is stuck at 65 degrees. Those of us with large monitors get lost when turning and about fall out of our chairs with motion sickness. Nobody can see anyone else unless they happen to brush their mouse over their location, so the game is full of not so much skill as it is people stumbling over other people, killing them.
    - Horrible latency compensation. Watching my own death cam replays is often funny, as I'll have shot at a guy maybe 5-6 times, die, and then the replay shows me just spinning around in circles not shooting at all. What I see, what the other guy sees, and what the server see apparently are vastly different. It's worse than any other game I've ever seen in my life in this regard. Honestly.

The new weapons and achievements are pretty fun, and the textures are sharper. I really like the blowing cloth. It doesn't redeem the huge gaping crap, however.

4/10: I came, I saw, I want my money back.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

I'll go the other way - I bought it and have played a little MP and campaign. I like some of the new look and feel, and I'm still convinced that IW will put some additional work into the PC version that will show up in patches now that the consoles are released and they are $500M richer.

Don't know if anyone has been keeping watch, but for the last few weeks, there has been a group that are working on "dedicated servers" for MW2, don't know how they doing it or the details, but it's becoming interesting.

Try the IW forums, its usually on the front page. It gets deleted and then simply starts up again as there is next to no moderation.

BTW IW have lost the plot on their own forums a bit like they did with the PC game really.

    As a side note -

Developers of RPGs and MMOs are going to follow after Infinity Wards shining example, and will be deactivating player character movement in all of their games released on the PC.

Following that, 3D graphics are to be abandoned, and we will see games running on a multi coloured wall of text™ graphical interface. As a compromise to fans of 3D games, the multi coloured wall of text™ graphical interface will later be updated to include groundbreaking 3D floating text.

I'm a little disapointed with the SP campaign actually Beyond the well documented PC issues -

Absolutely awful plot. That stomach churningly crass airport level is completely out of place - a ham-fisted attempt to shock, that would only have worked had the plot been far stronger. Indeed the game actually tells a story that is both weak and dubious (there would have been nothing wrong with that had they not tried to justify it in such a blundering manner). This is all unfortunate, as the game-mechanics are still of a very high quality. It's almost like the whole project was annexed by Soldier of Fortune. At least those games didn't have the audacity to explain themselves!
The FOV issue really hurts gameplay - at times it's almost impossible to see whats actually going half the time. It's like going to war with tunnel vision! The scripting is a little clumsy at times, and the spawning is worse than ever in some scenarios. These are problems that existed in COD4, and they only seem to have gotten worse rather than better.
    A 7/10 game for me.

After all this petitioning, flag waving and pc patriotic following of this; what is the end result? Nothing. Online petitions are sadly, a true waste of time.

I still don't understand why they would move in this direction? I mean, what would be the problem in setting up a dedicated server anyway?

    Strange.
