This is a very common issue with I7 / X58.

The CPU is not as tight a fit in the socket as it could be so there is a bit of movement possible and also there are an awful lot of pins to bend...

The bad initial seating might have screwed up the bios (it happened to me with this board a while back) and the only way to fix it was flashing to a different bios version and then flashing back to the version I wanted

I tried reflashing but still the LCD poster is bad bad bad so I turned the light off and removed it out of my face.

I'm still can't break the 208 Bclk mark....I finished testing 205 x 21 and now I'm testing 208 x 21, leaving every thing at auto, will optimize later.

I have 2 4870x2, I don't think they like to play with the PCIE clock, right?

Salamander - if reseating the CPU caused the issue, I suggest reseating it again. Clean the CPU contacts with some isopropyl alcohol and a Q-tip first, and do not touch the contacts with your fingers. Make sure its in the middle of the socket. As a guy above stated there is a bit of play in the socket, so do it carefully.

I will do that, but not this week end, maybe the next week end, I've had too much share of opened case and PC guts in the open !

Right now I'm testing my CPU @ 206x 21 with 1.37 CPU voltage and QPI voltage !

With a controlled Room temp. of around 23c the maximum the CPU gets is 68c, I love that !

Flashed to the last Bios posted here (1639) and my OC that was stable with Bios 1506 is not stable with Bios 1639, BSOD code 124.

Flashed back to Bios 1506 and no BSOD Code 124 with the same OC.

Did you manually re-input your settings? You cannot reload your oc profile and expect stability. 1639 seems fine to me so far. Where did you get 1506?

I set same values than 1504 and it is as stable as before.

I had only a BSOD going in stand-by when Vista 32 prompts for user password, I have to better investigate it.

1504 : high overclock, low volts, coldboot issue.

0077: coldboot fixed, not stable at 1504 volts / overclock.

I haven't tested 1639 yet but it is looking like a repeat of 1504 >> 0077...

Conclusion: more testing required

Have you tried forcing a boot from the secondary bios so you can confirm that a corrupted main bios is the cause of your LCD failure?

Try that as well and report back...

I know, i re-input all the settings, even i tried to go with higher voltages on Vcore and QPI/DRAM voltage, and no go. Back to 1504 and everything just go like before... no errors at 3mins like i was getting with Bios 1639 even with higher voltages (Tried 1.3v vcore and 1.6v QPI/dram and LinX throw me an error at 3mins, rams at 2000MHz CL8)

The LCD poster issue happened before flashing the BIOS, I'll try to do what you've stated above but not until I complete testing my overclocking attempt.

By the way, with the 1504 I could reach 208 but with the 1639 I couldn't!

Yep.

1504 provided the best overclock for me as well....

Don't have a 4870x2 myself to test but you could try up to PCI-e 110 and if it is ok there maybe 115

went back to 1504 , cold boot back with 1639. So for all of you were coldboot issue was solved by 1502 / 1504 don't flash to 1639

I swear I'm having the worst overclocking experience in ages!
With the Gigabyte EX58x-extreme it was fairly easy.

Now I was trying 207x21 and I rasied the voltage to 1.4 on both CPU and QPI/DRAM, Ran Prime95 and checked it after 1 hour, it was good, again after 5 hours and it was good, then after another hour and my PC was crashed and I got no signal message on the screen, and for no reason the LCD poster had some text that is readable! So I hit reset button and went to the BIOS menu to set every thing to auto with no overclocking because I'm going to work in an hour and have no time for testing, so I set my RAM manually to 1866 @ 1.65v which is its rated speed, saved settings and restarted, the PC would not fully boot, it doesn't like my RAM at its default settings, this 1639 is a carp BIOS, I'm going back to 1504, I can't overclock well or even run my PC at defaults!

The good news is and that's really strange is that after a couple of resets the LCD poster is fully functioning !!!!!!!!!!

How does it handle Linx @ max mem? 5 hours Prime95 is reasonably stable, but it's not uncommon for crashes to occur after that point. Are you working up slowly from a fully tested confirmed stable point?

People often report instability after flashing to a new BIOS; did you set all settings again manually or load the preset saved settings from the old BIOS? Apart from potential settings set incorrectly when loading saved settings from an OC profile, sometimes real voltages can be different despite the same BIOS set voltage being selected. As you are getting instability with the latest BIOS, when all settings are set manually again, have you confirmed all the voltages are what they used to be?

I'll reflash 1504 BIOS and try again, I'll keep you updated.

P.S. I see that the Asus like to push the QPI/DRAM waaaaaaay above the 1.35 limit. how high can I go?

Well it keeps within temp range(watercooled) and rocksolid after 8 hours occt and 20 linx pass when 10 gb ram is set . ill post my settnings later.

About qpi volt i know many who use 1.55-1.6 24/7 for stable use of 2000 mhz ram i use 1.55 volt for the 4 ghz uncore no degradation or problems after 6 months.
I used 1.35v for 3.75 ghz uncore.
