    Help Overclocking my New Rampage

Hi, I have a Intel i7 920 with the batch number 3919A562, my motherboard is a Rampage II Extreme with Bios version 1504, my memorys are an OCZ Blade OCZ3B2000C9LV6GK 3X2GB, My PSU is an NOX 700w model AT-700P14A, my cpu cooling is an Corsair H50.

I need your help, cause this is like having a ferrari but not knowing to drive.
Can anybody tell me the best configs i can put to push my system to the limite but running stable in games.

    Thanks

Isn't this like asking the same as:

I have a super model girlfriend but I'm a virgin and can someone tell me how to please her?

--- You just have to dip one toe in the water, or one finger into the pie and learn as you go!

But seriously, the R2E likes Auto all the way up to 210-215 BClk with a i7 920 D0 processor.

Just tweak your memory timings and running 4.4-4.5GHz with a H50 is quite doable

I have always discouraged the blind use of templates. Best way is to start at stock, set everything manually, and read a lot so you understand the basics of overclocking i7/X58 systems. It's not hard really, and it can be a lot of fun.

Compliments, you got a swiss cucu clock instead of a MB.

By the way, I have no idea what could be.

Says who! My R2E doesn't like Auto at all! And won't get Bclk more than 208 stable at all, My 920 is a D0 by the way, I'm building a water cooling system I'll see if I can push more.........

This is deceiving Kensek. I strongly recommend against running on Auto as voltages will likely be way too high for no reason. Furthermore, cooling 4.4GHz+ with H50 is not recommended at all. That system can barely hold a 4GHz OC unless you happen to have gotten the best D0 out there in terms of voltages and temps.

    hello,

I backed the bclck down to 211, and now I have it very stable. I'm currently working on getting the QPI/DRAM voltage down as much as possible.

Is there anything I need to know about this, other than it has to remain within 0.5V of 1.65V (RAM voltage), so above about 1.2V? I heard somewhere else that having the VTT within 0.03V of the vcore can help with stability, is this true? Is it necessary? I find it very strange, as the voltages vary by more than this in a matter of seconds under load.

Incidentally, I find whenever I enter "hotkey" mode for the asus tweakit LCD panel, I cannot get control of my keyboard back. I hold "Q" for 2 sec, then nothing responds on the keyboard except the arrow key controls. Is there a key combo I need to press to regain control, or do I always have to reboot?

    Thanks!

Nice CPU, nice mobo, nice rams.... but that PSU? That's such a piece of junk, it's not worth a dime.

My advice, get yourself a decent PSU.

Hi everyone, i have a question and a request if someone can help me to clear me out...

Ok this is the thing... is normal to have 0.05v difference between what you set in BIOs for QPI/DRAM Voltage???

For example, i have to set in BIOS 1.525v in QPI/DRAM Voltage, to actually give 1.45v, measured with a voltimeter on the points, also in Everest show 1.45v...

Can someone run Everest and see if the difference are close to what i get or measure with a voltimeter... ?

Me Bad. Though I have used 3 separate R2Es it was the P6TD Dlx that luved Auto up to 215 BClk with a D0.

Hard to keep track of Mobos and results since I usually run a new and different one every 4-6 weeks.

But it was the P6TD that luved Auto.

    P6TD on Auto -

New BIOS change LOG doesn't provide all the information regarding changes, they just inform users with stuff and hide other things.

    OK, I have a problem.

I just installed my water cooling and finished leak test, I assembled the hardware back and turned on the PC, the mobo only detects 4 GB out of the 6GB, I remounted the CPU again, now it sees all the 6GB but the LCD poster is now displaying strange missing characters. I tried to reset the BIOS but no luck, I'm now going to try the new BIOS and see if I can fix this, any recommendations?

I will have to try a 12 multi and see what i can do. Mine will probably blow up or do something crazy though with my luck.

This is a very common issue with I7 / X58.

The CPU is not as tight a fit in the socket as it could be so there is a bit of movement possible and also there are an awful lot of pins to bend...

The bad initial seating might have screwed up the bios (it happened to me with this board a while back) and the only way to fix it was flashing to a different bios version and then flashing back to the version I wanted

    NB cooling fan

so I have looked far and wide and typed until my fingers bleed and I cannot find anything other than the swiftech addon waterblock for the NB, has anyone attempted to mount a fan on the NB is the block on there the right size for a fan to fit?

Anyone having usb issues with this board? The two under the ps/2 port both random drop out for no reason. Thought it was my keyboard but it wasn't got another same deal. Then my mouse was doing it, thought perhaps weak cable in the usb plug. So i moved to another usb port and moved the wired and it tested fine. Guess i will have to rma this board for these bad usb ports on it.

I'm also looking for an aftermarket solution for the NB and I've seen an user here on XS, that had a Thermalright HR-05 SLI installed on his R2E, but on the Thermalright website, no version of the HR-05 is listed as compatible with the R2E.

I've also seen another user, here on XS, with an Alpenföhn Ötzi installed on the NB.

If you don't mind a somewhat ghetto look, you can use an Antec Spot Cool fan. And yes, these northbridges are very toasty. I thought moving the memory controller out would help, but I guess not so much.
