thanks, what is even more awesome is that on the ground there were about 6-7 deer grazing. i didn't get any quality shots of them since the lighting was so low.

When i was little, my baby sitter put me in a stroller and walked me around the lake by our house... we fed the geese, but when we ran out of food they started attacking us and my babysitter ran away scared of them... but I was left in the middle with geese pecking at my face!

it sure looks like it by the headlights and hood,,, daaaaammmmn

these geese are pretty humanized, they are at this pond all year round as its a park and people are always there feeding them.
there are canadian geese, malard ducks, white ducks, and some other multi brown colored ones.
the ground is completely covered in poop and i forgot a towel to sit on so i had to do some selective 1 cheaking it to save my fanny from being covered in poo.
i too grew up with white geese, big and mean, omg they would chase you around the yard and bite your butt.

the Gull in the first shot took a bit of selective blurring and sharpening to bring it out.
now it looks like i PS'd it into the photo lol.

i dont think the one shot per day thing has stood its ground for ages.
as long as the forum isnt hosting the pictures and i am not flooding, i think we can post more than 1 a day and not have it hurt anything.

    p.s.
i'm in Iowa, it was like 75deg today.

No he's right, I did use some post processing. I could probably have gone closer and whatnot but I photoshopped it instead. As you can see the whole car is slightly unnaturally in focus when you compare it to the surroundings, but I think the fact that you mistook it for the effect of aperture proves that it's good enough. I'd love to get a 80-200 f/2.8 or a 70-200 f/2.8 but that was shot with the 35mm f/1.8G.

I put a layer of 5 pixel Guassian blur on top of the original and erased the car from that layer, causing everything else to have the blur.

I normally do the total opposite. Select the car and invert the selection to apply the Blur

You can do this in LR as well with the Adjustment Brush and Clarity slider with Auto Mask. Just a little more work. But you can always erase if you accidentally brush over the subject.

I do the same as Elisha, but i sometimes do the history brush too.
history brush is def. easier though. as it takes less fine tuning as selecting a single opject.

Elisha your on a bronzing kick, what are you doing to give the bronze makup effect?

You can probably emulate what I did in LR when you click on More Properties on Flickr and see the parameters.
But I have a preset for it that I use and tweak to get it just right in LR.
It is called Night Grotto II.

However it will only look good with Low ISO shots as it tends to increase the noise and shadows considerably.
If I had tried it on an ISO 1600 or more image, it would be super grainy which may or may not look nice depending on the image.

Let me know if you want any of my presets, I should be able to zip up my whole folder and email it or upload it somewhere.
