dinos22: I posted S1N3's log file at the end of the previous page so you can have a look at what happens during turbo throttling.

Have a look at the CMULTI (Calculated Multiplier) column and scroll down. It starts out nice and steady at 21.000 which shows the turbo is fully engaged. At 22:08:01 is the first sign that it is starting to cycle. The previous second shows the load meter starting to act funny. The average multiplier on all threads has dropped down to 20.856 and as he continues to test and things heat up, the average drops lower and lower.

The lowest I see is about 20.6. What this number means is that turbo mode is engaged approximately 60% of the time. It's using the 21X multiplier 60% of the time and the other 40% of the time it is only using the 20X multiplier. That's not too good.

The multiplier on these CPUs can be cycling back and forth hundreds of times a second between 21 and 20 when this is happening. At this level, there's a good chance that CPU-Z would still be showing a nice steady 21 multiplier but that doesn't adequately tell a user that something is going on. His screen shot of RealTemp shows a multiplier of 20.7 which is also a warning sign of turbo throttling in progress. If he was testing with LinX it would probably drag it down to 20 full time.

At 22:09:43 in the log file, just as the load starts to decrease, the multiplier starts to recover and 1 second later; no significant load and the multi is happily back up to its maximum of 21.000. No more turbo throttling.

As I said before, this is a perfect example of what happens during a turbo throttling episode and also shows how precise i7 Turbo is at detecting this problem.
