With those pics of the 59xx, does anyone know if the Arctic Cooling Accelero 4870X2 cooler will fit on the 59xx card ?

I get the feeling the PWM area is as slack as it is on the 5870. Tons of empty space.
If the design is opened up to 3rd-party PCB design, I reckon an inch could be taken off the PCB.
Cores are close together... no PLX?
Dunno, K404. this is the best picture of the back:

ther is chip between two gpus so yes there is plx and i am not excited about this card its just cf sad thing is that ati didn't add a thing to there multi gpu purpose which is sadly there future according to em

Yeah it appears that way, but could be due to a number of things. Engineering sample, test version, test bios, gpu-z db error, low clocks, samples, - could even be an ES with 1600 shaders per core clocked at 5850 speeds. Or it could actually be 1600sp @ 5850 speeds in the final shipping product, however I doubt it. Considering the 5870 runs cooler and actually loads with equal or less power than a 4870, i see no problem with equal (or even higher as rumored) clocks on the dual version since the 3870x2 and 4870x2 clocks match those of their single gpu counterparts.

Due to games only being console ports we don't really need more than one GPU anyway and spending money on r&d to get rid of the plx chip just isn't worth it if the only people benefitting from it are those running one or more 30" screens.
Manufacturers love launching new stuff for christmas, also it would fit in nicely with the time it will take the partners to release custom versions, while there is nothing announced yet it's pretty safe to assume that more versions will appear for christmas.

i think he meant the 2GB per GPU card.![]()
QFT.
Just recently we had a news article whose parts were copied verbatim by Hilbert without giving a source. And I mean word for word.
This happens all the time in the industry. If the issue is serious enough people whose material has been copied are able to lodge a complaint with the site's host. However, since it pretty much happens on a regular basis with some sites, many just shrug and go on with their lives.![]()

maybe both, but(from what i'v read) it will be cheaper then two 5870's so it will be slower by a tad......still it will be fast

makes us wonder if the 5850x2 is going to be very close in performance, or if they will downclock that too, but for no reason
I wonder are we sure that GPU-Z screen shot is just of the 59??/5850x2 the core speed and the memory speed the same as the single 5850 725/1000. Plus there are 2 Device ID numbers GPU-Z shows the 689C who's to know if not the 689D will be the 59??/5870x2 with 850/1200. IMO this is of the 5850x2 well I hope and yeah also hope for 2g pre-gpu on the 689D.

Take this results carefully...
Looks like 5870x2 is being delayed not just because of heat and power consumption, but mostly cause CF implementation in drivers is still pretty terrible.
Also "The card itself is 13.5 inches long, and has problems fitting even a full sized tower case like the Antec 1200".
It looks great, though!![]()
