Which manufacturer is going to be ready with 5850/5870 blocks?

Copper does more performance but has less corrosion resistance? Nikel does less performance but has more corrosion resistance?

My EK block seems to perform fairly well.

Just did a test using the Heaven demo under DX11 and my GPU temps never exceed 32C. VDDC temps ranged from 40-43C.

Good to hear that.
Until now I'm waiting for the new version of the Koolance block, it has the best looks IMO. Dean told us that the current version has better contact that should leads to better performance.

the nickel plating on the copper is so thin it wont hurt performance. what the cover is made of doesnt matter, so all 4 versions will perform the same. IF you have aluminum in your loop, i'd strongly recommend either nickel one, but if you dont the copper is fine too. from your sig i can conclude you have only copper, so just pick the one that looks best.

umm, according to this: http://www.engineersedge.com/galvanic_capatability.htm, nickel would corrode with aluminum even worse than copper. Mixed metals do not work unless they're close enough.

I've got an MCW60-4870 sitting here I never got around to using.
Will it fit on my nice new Sapphire 5850?
I'm thinking that the spacing to the VRM's might be a little different, but you have the data to correct me on that.
If so, any chance of an upgraded heat pipe as an accessory?

Just watercooled both my 5870 cards using the Ek waterblock.
prob is my gpu temps under load hit 55c and my vddc temps go up and over 80c. im using thermochill pa 120.3 rad and a stong pump. but im using standoffs. will it be better not using standoffs. can some 1 guide me installintg blocks without standoffs. thx in responce.

Hmmm. Those temps definitely aren't right. I get roughly 35C at load on the core and between 45-55C for my VDDC.

I'm thinking maybe you applied too much thermal paste for your core and used too little thermal tape.

What is the difference between idle and load?
What is your water temp?

Have never used GPU blocks in my loop earlier. I will use only 2 fittings (no CF). Is there something like plugs in packaging arrangement to close other 2 threads?

EK spec. sheet for that block claims that package includes, I quote:
"- 1 × Water block
- 2 × EK-Plug G 1/4
- 2 × EK-G 1/4 Spacer with o-ring
- Mounting mechanism with 10 × POM Acetal
standoffs
- Thermal pads"

so you should be fine with those 2

Very happy with my koolance AR587 (which is also compatible now with 5850 which is what I have) .. everything under 50C (gpu, mem, VDDC) .. and looks great to boot

Some standoffs were too long. We went through stock and replaced the bad standoffs and have included a slightly thicker thermal pad as secondary insurance.
