its late because of yield issues. it taped out a while ago.

I brought that up a while ago. ATI was already DX10.1 compliant and had less of an upgrade path to reach dx11, than Nvidia.

I really hope Nvidia's card isn't too expensive.
A good price/performance ratio is really needed.

Well it will probably have a good price/performance ratio. High performance for a high price.

That's still alright. But I'll probably see it for 550 Euro closer to 600 over here

Nvidia actually picked up one or two BIG names in regards to tessellation.
We will have to wait and see if it was worth it...

I don't know whether this has been posted before? From what it looks like tessellation is quite demanding:

Personally, I was hoping for an almost free lunch on the new hardware.

I thought that at least some performance loss was to be obviously expected when tessellation was used. If you really think about it, 30-40% performance loss is quite minimal considering that the amount of polygons goes up well over 30 times.

MS said 20% faster with tessellation along with some other benefits like reduced vram utilization. i am sure the 5870 is maxing it out w/o tessellation because i can too. this bench is really pushing the shaders when TS is enabled.

at least with rocks on the ground I believe CE2 did a very good job with Parallax Occlusion Mapping, quite a good final effect and performance hint was negligible.

    Are we there yet?

tesselation in unigine looks way better than occlusion mapping imo, and yeah its too bad that the amount of added polygons cant be adjusted...
would be cool to have a slider for it so you can basically adjust the level of geometry detail! that would be sweet!

nobody said it didn't look better, it does, I just stated that POM did a good job with small performance hit.

Not taking anything away from CryEngine 2, man! It is great for sure. Just wish it supported multicore, glad they fixed it in CE3.

Get the Real lifesis 2 mod when it comes out, to be honest except for pixelation on the edge of vegetation, it's very close to reality.

Real Lifesis 1 appeared to look worse than on most screenshots, though.
People complained about excessive blur, too. Well, will see what RL2 has to offer!

That looks incredible. Hopefully 5870x2 or Fermi can run it at great framerates at 1920x1200. 5870 is almost there gtx295 is even closer but I'm looking for a little bit more. I really want minimum framerates to never drop below thirty.
