and 8 players per side sucks if its not counter strike

tbh i dont know what pises me off most. The max 16 players thing or p2p crap.

I must admit that sometimes when i was in the mood i would look up a server with 10 to 20 people on it to play a low pace game. But mostly i would go with a server that had 20vs20 or higher init for a nice fast paced game.

Damn most people are with a 2meg up dsl connection that most likely doesnt even get close to 2meg up and those guys will go and host games .
I already predict a future of tons of people complaining on the IW forums about IWnet being laggy as crap.
And what happens if ur in a game and the guy hosting it decides to leave?

about IW using the crappy excuse of the playing lvl being to high for people that is just BS.
When i was on a server and the lvl was to low for me i left, if i was playing like crap and the lvl was to high i left. I then simply went to another server more to my liking and continued playing.

In the end i had several servers listed on my fav. list for every mood one.

They have said the game will simply change host. Its the 16 player max that kills it for me, the games will be soo boring

Almost 129K signatures, I suppose 150K will be easily attained until the weekend.

not to mention, it breaks the tos of many ISP's, some of which have already been posted in this thread. IWnet on the p2p basis may force users to break the TOS to play, as all the selections are done server side.

Back on topic...100k signatures are A HELL of them! If you think that we are talking about pre-orders and that the system IW is going to run costs money, then 100k means a huge amount of people.
Besides, what the they are thinking? That we are a bunch of idiots that do not even know how to read? Jesus, its damn easy to see which server is using which mod, map and everything, they think we are damn bots or something. I'm not buying this crappy game, thats for sure...

I guess TOS is like Provider rules orso?
I dunno if mine allows running your own server but they nvr complained about the amounts i down or uploaded but i do know that alot of providers wont like it.

    @Bodkin
So IWnet pics the best connection out of all to host the server. then this guy leaves and the guy whos conn wasnt good enough to host the server gets to host it?

Damn and you damn wel know that the guy who hosts the server has a brother who decides to start up bittorent 5 min into the game.

This has all the ingredients of an epic fail tbh.
I wonder whats in the water at IW cause they seem to focus so blindly on the DLC they want to that they cant see that there wont be any people who wil want to buy that DLC because they all stopped playing.

Global Call of Duty servers shut down suggestion, 10-11/Nov/2009.

I think these manouvers may sound like nothing at a short glance, but done at a global scale, they could send the message.

Wel they put alot of time, money and effort in something thats way better then crappy dedicated servers.

They call it IWnet and it has amazing features that will knock ur socks off.
Now brace yourself and make shure your not handeling heavy machinery while reading this.
Iwnet offers p2p server hosting with an 18 player max.

Not only that, but hosting the server locally on the most powerful machine/best connection is somehow supposed to REDUCE cheating and unfair imbalances? LOL, I suppose IW hasn't learned a single thing from the past 40 years of computer networking.

Even if their new system works perfectly and is free of the significant downsides that you mention (though I doubt it), it is still a totally horrible idea. It is much worse then when I thought it would just be taking a bunch of random people and connecting them to a random official server with low ping - which already destroys any feeling of community.

DICE is another big developer wholly owned by a big publisher. They could learn from IW's failures in listening to the community, but I doubt they will. They are only mentioning their support for dedicated servers because it was already part of the game and an easy way to help dig IW's grave. But if there was something not in the game, I doubt that they would bother if only .5-2% of the community signed a petition - no matter how much of a stink was raised on forums and blogs.

This is EA we are talking about, they are even worse then Activision and IW. They aren't going to learn from IW's mistake, they are just going to use it as a propaganda opportunity to absorb some of the COD player base.

Support independent developers and small publishers. They will be more responsive to the community's needs. And a larger number of small developers would help innovation in the PC games industry.

Well I signed the petition. Not that I was going to buy CoD MW2 anyways I'm more of a BF fan anyways. I did it because I dont like how these companies think they can just go around and push console port crap down on us and take parts of what makes the PC community so grand and throw it in the trash can.

I like Dedicated servers, I like clans that police their own dedicated servers, I like playing FPS with alot more than 18 peeps. I like free Mod servers and maps.
Oh and I did buy CoD4 MW just so peeps know its just not my thing.

They want a 100% controlled online gameplay system to "reduce" piracy.

Dedicated servers give way too much freedom to mod stuff, including how it authenticates copies of the game if you touch stuff here and there.

Of course it also takes away the good stuff like gameplay mods, having a game being hosted on a good connection, being able to play with more than 16 people...

In short, they are trying to make the PC a closed and controlled platform, just like a console

If it's like the console version the game will freeze attempt to find a new host and resume.

Same here, hence my preorder cancled.
Why did they have to kill something so good. It just seems so crazy the stance they have adopted. They seem to thing if they keep being rude and arragant we will just lie down
